no idea what this is

ok so i decided i would let me 17 year old brother help me take some stuff of my sr i told him what i wanted off and were it was on the engine and he started doing what i asked while i worked on the exhaust and turbo…but he took something off the engine that i did not want off and now i cant get it back in from what i can tell it holds a guide for the timeing chain but i have to idea how to get it back in its way to hard to push it in and i dont want to break anything so here are some pics and let me know what u guys think

and i would let to get at the internals and the head gasket but im really not sure about taking off the timeing chain and such whats the best way to go about that ?

Go download the FSM and it will tell you everthing you need to know

Basicly that is the timing chain tensioner, to put it back in (but you will need to take it out to do a head gasket) use your thumb to push the clip up then press the end in and use the little clip it has to keep it that way. Install it and rotate the engine once and it will release

Yeah that is the tensioner. You have the old style one. There is a newer one that flows more oil. 13070-2J203 from Nissan.

To bad they are not hydraulic. They don’t use oil at all for tension, so i have no idea how a mechanical tensioner can flow more oil

Im pretty sure what adam meant to say is that the S15 ones are .5mm longer :?
