I loved that thing like a fat kid loves taffy. Someday I’ll pick one up for myself (or I’ll pull a TJ and get a vette). But yea there are plenty of events this year, one or two won’t hurt the cobalt.
I’ll have to make it out to a couple of these events for sure. Such a friendly environment and a fun day.
if you think it’s going to hurt the car, just take it easy on the car. more than likely it will make me feel better about myself by having more people go slower than me. an ego boost for us slow drivers never hurt anyone…right?
most of the people that i’ve met at the autox’s are really friendly and will help with what ever you need. perfect example was the last nhscc autox last season which i ended up having a blast at even though i thought i was going to hate the setup.
the only person i’ve met that was a complete douche was this kid that drove a white integra. i’m sure someone on here know’s who i’m talking about.
def a great enviornment. ive gone a few times and everyone out there is very nice and willing to help out. its a fun time for sure. plus its cool to see the variety of cars that show up to compete.
The only time I ever had a problem was almost being run-over by a yellow mustang while trying to fix a cone. The damn course was like a figure 8 configuration and the next car was coming through…maybe if the freakin mustang driver wouldn’t have hit so many darn cones the world would be a better place…so I got in the way and he had to re-run. Tough shit. Quit sucking at driving.
Yea anytime a course doubles back on itself and someone hits a cone on the first pass, I just leave it down till they go by a 2nd time. If they stop and point it out like it was your fault, there is always no lack of people to prove to the driver that their dumb ass took the cone out in the first place hehe. I’ve never really had any problems in situations like that myself, but I have had to back up a little from a spinning car before.
Reminds me of the guy almost getting mauled by the Silver vette coming out of the Chicago box last year. You’ve really got to be on your toes or things can get harry out there.
I love racing events where the chance of injury is greater by not being in the car, lol.
Carlizzle, wanna go halfsies on randy’s s2k? Your car is slow, my car sucks. LMK, lol.
God I can’t wait until race season.
Oh yeah, whoever was worried about breaking stuff, there is a 99% chance that you won’t. I DD my vw and I’m going on my 3rd season with about 10 races per season. Come on out and you’ll be hooked. Heck, my dad is hooked now in his mazda 3!
In summary we can say autocross is 10% driving and 90% standing around bullshitting about cars? hehe.
Randy’s S2000 scares me, I’ve never seen the car pointed straight. Though I can’t wait for two weeks. Civic is packing a hair more firepower so it should be a good year
I’ve never seen it going straight either, so I highly doubt Chris could control it. :sadwavey:
I’m not German retard.
gotta be easier to drive than matt’s…
up to 92hp now?
yup, i’m retarded…so wat i kant spel
Like I said, I’m up for doing the driving school. I have a few questions though.
-
Do I need to bring something to write my numbers on the window, or is this school just come and run it?
-
Do I need a helmet for the school. If so, where’s a local place that I could go and check/try some on?
-
How strict are the tech inspections? I have a set of rims with sticky tires that have some uneven wear on inside tread of two of the tires, and I’d rather run them than trash my Enkeis. Just curious to know if they would pass.
No numbers for this, just come on out and run.

Per the website.
“Helmets & Numbers:
At all of NHSCC autocross events participants will be required to have a Snell 85 or newer helmet. DOT helmets are not allowed. Make sure you have the proper helmet before attending one of our events, because loaner helmets are not available.” Locally you can give these guys a call http://www.apexperformance.net/ they are run out of a home up in Gibsonia and are really great people to deal with when it comes to safety gear. Aside from Snell 85 rated helmets, a “M” rated helmet for a motorcycle will also work. So if you know anyone with a bike you might be able to borrow theirs for the day. I think some others on here have bought helmets locally from various retail stores maybe they can chime in.

As long as there are no cords showing on the tires you are ok. If the things are really uber bald they might question it, but beyond that a little uneven tire wear should be alright. Make sure the car has current inspection (since the park is public ground all of the cars must be inspected). And obviously make sure you have you license with you. Only other advice I can give with the car is make sure the battery is tight, and leave as many loose items as you can at home since you will have to take them out of the car when you race.
Any other questions fire away!
I think I might hold off on buying a helmet until I know I know I’ll commit to doing this full-time. I’ll have to see if I can borrow from a friend or something. fingers crossed
The tires have plenty of tread. The problem is that the very inside tread is almost gone. But it sounds like they should be okay to use.
Well, since you and I won’t be in the same class…you are welcome to use my helmet if you want…provided it fits.
Is an “M” ok for north park and beaverun. My current helmet is a true snell 2000 but I want to get another one on the cheap. On racepa there was some talk about HJC being reasonably priced for nice helmets, but when I looked at their car helmets they were way more than I wanted to spend. Are people using motorcycle helmets?
I use a motorcycle helmet. As long as it is Snell approved your golden.
I think I read somewhere that the “M” helmets have a tendency to sit higher on your head that a regular “SN” would. Something about extra padding required for bike use. So if headroom is a issue you may want to consider that.
So you’ll be up there for the class as well? If so, that would be awesome! Thanks for the offer.
