man, they are getting out of control with this shit. before the legal limit up front was something like 37%, 70% is retarded. some stock tint on cars is darker than that.
I got this via a NYS Trooper in Schenectady on a stop check. I got out of it by arguing that there was no proof of the actual tint being illegal and that the officer does not have the skills to determine the amount of light that passes through a given medium.
If they do a tint test, which is laughable if they have a machine because tint is a priority in our country right now, then I guess you are screwed.
most of the time i see them use the tint meter when they hand out tickets. this is the reason why i won’t get any on my car. i don’t need any more harassment then i already get.
They hand out those expensive meters to every cop? Perhaps you are bad luck? Like I said, it’s not that difficult to get out of if they don’t use a tint tester. I’ve never encountered one with it.
BTW, my GF is an attorney so that’s my secret tip.
I’m just in general not a big fan of tint, unless it’s on my helmet visor, but next thing you know that would be illegal too.
Nothing beats the reaction you get when you pull up to a soccer mom trying to put on her makeup in the rear view mirror, and just stare at her with the tinted visor… freaks them the hell out. You’re all like and they are :ahh
no i haven’t personally had this happen, because i have never tinted my car for this very reason. i just don’t need another thing to be messed with for. i know a few people who have had the tint scale pulled out on them, and both were screwed from the get go. if the cop can’t see you through the front window you are pretty much fucked. if they don’t pull you over, they just didn’t feel like getting out of the car or writing the ticket. i said the same thing about this type of ticket when i was given an “inadequate exhaust” ticket. the cop never metered my exhaust, so like you said its all in his opinion, and his judgment. when it comes down to it, all the officer is doing is just guessing and being overly excited hand out violations.
that is awesome that your girl is an attorney. must be great having your own personal legal adviser on call. ;D
Oh FYI, most Albany county Sheriffs I know, will no longer give out tint tickets.
The reason? Their new charger has pretty much the equivalent of Limo tint, and their logic is, if the county sets them up with the tint like that, why should they ticket others?
My Trans Am has about 20-30% tint on everything but the windshield. It has been in florida since it was new so the tint was vital down there. It looks too good to remove it, and if you ever been in an F-body with t-tops you feel like an ant under a magnifying glass in the summer. Even with the A/C on your are hardly comfortable. :runaway
Its a good thing this car comes with the rare sun shades for the t-tops. I was thinking of putting vinyl on my old car to block out the sun last summer
