If you work out a GB price, I will definitely pick up a full system. I’m not sure how the systems work, but would it be possible to run multiple cars at a time. Even if you are running just 3 cars at a time on a 1.x mile course there should be plenty of spacing over 10 minutes as long as the car/driver are reasonably well matched. I’m not sure if the transponder is tripped by every passing vehicle or by each specific signal but even at 2 cars per session, then half of the time could be spent more like a track day and then the second half could be the time trial= more track time for everyone and time trial and still done by dark.
yea 2 cars would be better but they want transponders and such for acurately timed runs so no bickering happens…which i can understand…there trying to go for a time attack atmosphere but time attack gets a whole weekend of track time…i say we have another regular track day and then have a time attack when we can get the track for the whole day…
as of right now im spectating and not participating…
I bought this car specifically for track usage four years ago, and have been dumping what little money I do have into it for the very purpose of running in on a track. I don’t ass-clown on the track, however I will push the car to it’s fullest that is what I bought it for. And that has been what I’ve wanted to do with it for 4 years now. And for the past few years I’ve only been about to maybe get 20 miles or less of track time on it it’s quite frusterating to not use it what I bought it for.
I’ve dumped every cent I’ve had into getting everything back up to par for safety/racing/reliability and now this. I find that real shitty I can’t joke about breaking a ford that keeps breaking my wallet. And prove that it is capable of doing something other than sitting in storage and getting fixed all year. I already missed several track days because of this car. I don’t want to miss more.
Well if you were kidding about the car breaking then its not an issue and I would imagine that you could go.
However, If you know the car is going to blow up or break on the track, thats not being fair to the others who came to run because it does waste time for everyone else while we clean up the track and figure out how to get you off the track etc.
Spacing won’t be an issue. With the systems we are looking at, you could both pass the beacon at the same time and everything will be fine. It’s totally different from the system used in autocross, where it ques(?) the times, and spacing is crititcal. Every transponder has a separate ID, and will record it’s own laptimes. We’ll just pull the data to a computer after the session. As I said before, if everyone buys a transponder, we can roll as many cars as the track will allow (in this case, 12.)
You won’t even need to buy a full system. As long as one of us has a transmitter beacon, everyone will be good to go with just a receiver.
I think everyone would buy a transponder if you got the price reasonable
What is the name of the system?
XT Lap timer - I think.
Wow this poll isn’t really working is it…
So we have maybe 13 people right now… anyone else interested? We need more people to pull this off.
- Onyx Z32
- RX3
- JoesTypeS
- EvoMR
- Phil@Innovative

Well I will buy a complete system for my own use…
Then you can use my transmitter on another section of the track for split times
since the system is IR how wide is the beam?
Why you gotta ask questions I don’t have answers for yet?
The transmitter has 8 IR LEDs, don’t know the actual width yet.
Here is the manufacturer’s website:
http://www.cc-2000.com/xtracing/en/
Multiple transmitters for split times would be cool if we geta few people purchasing them.
The Hot Lap system could be cheaper if you wanted to have multiple drivers on track simultaniously.
Say you wanted 3 (or 5) drivers:
Hot Lap minimum equipment would be one complete sytem (253.90) + 2 extra recievers w/o display (79.99 ea). Total 413.88 (573.86 for 5 drivers)
XT Racing minimum equipment would be again one complete system (239.00) + 2 extra recievers (189.00 ea). Total 617.00 (995.00 for 5 drivers)
The drawback is that the after the session would Hot Lap recievers would have to share a display. The XT seems very computer friendly and more convienent. It would be a matter if people would want to save 58% per in car unit for slightly more hassle.
my biggest concern is actually having the system work on track…where would these things be mounted, etc…
I don’t know. That’s why I said I will be testing them out, and getting back to everyone.
The way you would setup the system is have the transponder at the start/finish on a tripod, or siitting on the concrete wall with clear LOS to the track. Then you mount the display somewhere where you can see it (or not, doesn’t really have to be palyed with), and the receiver somewhere in the open where it can pick up the IR from the transmitter.
I know they work for bikes (I’ve used them before), and I know of people who have used them in cars. But these cars were full out race cars, some open wheel or open cockpit. My guess is as long as the receiver isn’t blocked (mounted close to a window, maybe even outside the car?) we should be ok. I’ll know for sure when I test one out on a few cars, which will be in the next couple of days.
This is exactly why I’m starting to lean towards the XT. Ease of use, computer friendly, independent manipulation of lap timer display/data. OTher than the fact that I have used XT before, and I know of others in the area that are familiar with the system in case I have questions
does autocross, rallycross, and ice racing count as experience. or are you only looking for people who have been to the dunville track days.
lol, why yes that does count. The only thing we want to avoid is having someone out there who hasn’t done any sort of event ever.
cool. i don’t know for sure if i can make it. but i’m interested and i’ll let you know.
i have someone else that can go, but he’s a noob. i don’t think it would be a prob, he races atv’s and whatnot so he does have some sort of track experience :gotme:
so if you want, put two for my name…
I use the HT10’s on my eclipse which has the Baer Track kit (mustang cobra 13") and they are perfectly safe on the street. The only problem is that when cold they are hard on the rotor’s but they have all the stopping power I need even on a cold morning. I will agree they love to run hot and in fact, the hotter they get the better they work. They are by far the best track pad I’ve used.
I am interested in the event but I won’t be availible on the 15th.
im in.
