Why is everyone going crazy about trades and “shaking” everything up? The Pens have a ton of people hurt or just back from injury and are going thru a slump. The season is barely half over and everyone is sweating already.
Staal for $4 mil/years seems steep to me. I guess I’m just thinking about at 4 mil if he’s half as good as Crosby or Malkin and, although he doesn’t have the same type of game that they do, I don’t think he is.
I still think that he might be trade bait, and now the Pens can negotiate a better player, but I guess Shero knows the numbers better than we do on what the Pens can afford down the middle.
we need people better then the people we have that arent doing shit. We cant say oh we didnt do good bc 3 people are hurt. Well what about the 20 that aren’t hurt that arent scoring, letting in goals, not doing anything on the ice. There are better players out there that hate their teams or there teams want to trade them we can use. Ya we are at the half way mark and should be in the top of the pack, but we are not.
As for staal, he is still young and he is a third line center and thats why we pay him. he is also excellent on the PK and if he could do what malone did in front of the net at times would be better. Plus I have his jersey :blue:
hey I have a question. I thought Fleury was second in voting for goalies in the ASG balloting, why isnt he on the roster? im confused!
i’m pretty sure that fan voting is a factors in on the STARTING line up… so carey price is the only one “chosen” by fans. he will probably choke and it will be 13-0 by the end of the first period.
i doubt that the league would choose fleury to fulfill one of the other 2 remaining spots based on his play recently (also consider he’s been injured for a lot of the season) . and lundquist is playing out of his mind and deserves a spot so that really only leaves one spot in the east.
I am not too sure about the Staal signing either. I mean he seems like he can be a high value player in the NHL…but if he stays at center I think it is a terrible decision. That would be $21.4mil against the cap for 3 center…that is close to 1/2 the current cap. To me that is $ that could have been put towards a solid winger. The only thing I can think of is next season we dont resign Satan and Fedotenko and that would save us $5.75 Mil (3.5 & 2.25), which could be put towards a more proven winger. I do like haw Fedotenko has been playing lately, but we are more in need of more proven goal scoring winger. I guess time will tell…for this season I am to the point where I am hoping we even make it to the playoffs. It sucks we are not playing to our potential, but we are capable of breaking out of this slump and going on a good run.
dont forget talbot just resigned too. i dont recall what he makes with his new contract but thats another well paid center to add to your list.
to me, satan and fedotenko are not such a bad investment. i think theyre 3 & 4 in team scoring (EDIT:this is wrong since sykora has woken up lately, but you get the point)… which isnt bad considering who numbers 1 & 2 are.
i think we were a little spoiled by hossa last year. neither of these guys will produce anywhere close to what he could of had he stayed but theyre both solid top 6 guys, and if youre going to pay staal 4 to be an average centerman then i think 5.75 for two decent wingers is an ok deal.
I think bottom line is we need at least one 40 goal scoring winger who plays hard and backchecks. Lately I am not a fan of Satan and think he is not worth the $3.5 mil we pay him. He is barley a threat when he is on the ice lately and it seems that his effort level is weak. I was talking to a few buddies at work and they seem to think the answer is to unload Gonch one he is healthy. I have a hard time agreeing with them because how much he brings to the team…powerplay…leadership…etc. But the fact is he is somewhat old and you have to give to get…and we have a decent core of offensive d-men. An ideal trade would be to get Kovalchuk, because of his threat on the wing with Sid and the point on the PP…with him ad whitney on the PP it would be scary…Kovalchuk’s shot and Whitney sneaking in the backdoor. But that is just a dream and don’t mean shit. I just don’t think the answer is to have a few mid level wingers…we need a sniper winger. I don’t know I feel like I am rambling now…I guess time will tell and we will see what happens.
