i imagine its pretty typical of “young” teams that make it to a championship… probably this way in most of the professional sports.
the simple truth is that guys like malone and orpik are NOT worth 5+ a year on a team committed to “taking a little less to play for a good team” but they will get it else where… so, bye.
also, i think today is the penguins used equipment sale down town… its worth checking out if your in the area. lots of unused sticks and lightly used equipment. they dont use the cheap stuff obviously, you can find some pretty good deals.
Hey whatever…1 mil over 7 years = 7 Million $$$…so more power to him. I heard they offered Roberts 2 mil for 1 yr…TB is rebuilding…should be good this year with the new ownership.
TB also got back the rights to Prospal and signed Brian Rolston.
I still just don’t see all the hype around Ryan Malone. He’s a .5 point/game guy who centered two great players in Malkin and Sykora for most of the season. Lecavalier is great but who else do they really have?
Can’t just look at #'s…that dude was # 1 line everything on a great team. #1 pp line, #1 PK line, #1 line, #1 4on 4…etc. He played hard and was very physical…any team he is on he will make them better. I think 4.5 is a little high…but it seems like people are making a lot now.
well it’s official now…malone signed…$31.5 Mil/7 years…witht he first wo years paying 7-8 mil and Roberts signed a 1 yr deal for $1.25 mile plus $10,000 for every game he plays…so if he stays healthy he makes $2mil.
Kinda smart…bat emalone in with big up front $$ and a long contract…then make Gary stay healthy to pay him the full amount.
I think they’re going to try and capitalize on how he played last season, then he wont cost as much later on as the salary cap goes up. Sounds smart to me. And I don’t understand the Gary Roberts signing. He wanted a multi-year deal. We wanted to sign him to 1 year as well and I think for the same amount of cash. I mean he’s a presence on the ice and the locker room, but at best he’s a 4th line enforcer anymore.
Malone will count for 4.5mil per year against the cap…they use the avg…I am not sure hwat we ofered Roberts…I would think I heard like 1 mil or something.
