OFFICIAL '11-'12 BUFFALO SABRES SEASON THREAD

I heard, and this could totally be a RUMOR but, shanahan supposedly didn’t feel this was suspension worthy due to the LACK of response from the sabres, something along the lines of " well if the sabres didnt react to the hit then it must not have been that egregious." haha there is a wake up call for them

I’m somewhat glad as well. It gives the Sabres the opportunity for redemption, eye for an eye type of thing. They better put a bullseye on Lucic next week, I want to seem some good old time hockey payback.

LOL that is awesome. Can you even imagine if the Sabres ran Thomas? He would absolutely flip his lid.

Now those goalie runs were on purpose lol. The good old days, where if you ran the goalie you’d expect to be picking teeth off the ice.

Great effort in the comeback tonight. We just dominated Montreal after they went up 2-0. Vanek and Boyes shootout goals were about as smooth as silk.

I can’t believe Stewart got a 3 game suspension for this hit:http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=601861

I know this doesn’t really belong here, but if they hand out a suspension for this and not Lucic, it’s not adding up. If you watch the play, Kronwall definitely turns into Stewart to cut his path off the from the puck and Stewart decks him. But it’s a dumb play by Kronwall, if you’re gonna try to protect the puck like that you better be ready to get rocked. I also thought the hit was pretty far away from the boards enough to still warrant a check like that. There’s a lot of factors here but I’m just looking for some consistency in the punishment. I know what’s done is done, but I still contest that Lucic made no effort to avoid Miller and still managed to clobber him pretty good. Alright, I’m done ranting about that.

Livin4hockey… I didnt read everything but you need to realize, one play was head to head… both goalie and player going for the puck head on. You have much less time to react and seeing as you have livin4hockey as a name, you damn well know how fast these guys are moving at one another and tv does not do justice for being able to react to situations.

With the stewart situation… stewart followed him the whole way in with the guys back to him the entire time. I can understand a bump into the boards, but he tossed the guy head first into the boards from a good 5 feet away. That to anyone is a very very dangerous play, even if a guy is facing you. Getting thrown into the boards from that distance never ends well regardless. It was a fair call seeing as Stewart could have road him off into the boards and just held him from going head first. Instead he tossed the guy.

I understand you’re point about the speed of the situation, but with the way they are “ruling” these situations, there’s certain player etiquette that enters the situation. Stewart should have pulled back and made a smarter decision on the play. But in the same matter, I still think Lucic could have made a better attempt to avoid Miller. Yes, they were heading straight at one another, but these guys are skilled enough to stop or turn on a dime. I know Lucic isn’t exactly a finesse player but he still has some great footwork. I’ve watched the clip a bunch of times and Lucic stops moving his feet at the top of the circle; the collision takes place at the face-off dot. IMO that’s plenty of time to react in some manner besides just standing up and blowing through.

I understand your argument, but its still a hard decision to make. Again, both players, Miller and Lucic were both playing the hardest they could.

Break it down:

Lucic: He gets a chance for a break away, gives to big of a push on the puck to which he needs to skate his hardest to catch back up. hes looking downward at the puck, gets to a point to which he finally notices Miller. (you see his head pick up) it takes him a second to realize and react like anyone would.

If he did see Miller coming out, like any player… you are looking to score, you want to get the puck and if he so happens to mess up, you are there for the chance to put it in the back of the net.

Miller: Going for the puck noticing Lucic clearly coming but is wanting to stop the chance of a break away. Notices he definitely has a chance to get to the puck first but is taking a risk for going after it. When he realizes Lucic came up pretty fast, he puts his elbow up in the air and gets hit.

If you notice, Millers arm goes up before Lucic tossed him. Again like anyone, if you are in Lucic’s situation… you will reach when someone throws an elbow at you and brace for impact.

Was it right it happened, no… but seriously… Its fucking hockey man. lol either one would have just been a 10 min penalty back in the day at most.

And this is what it really boils down to. I agree with you 100% about how soft the sport is becoming. With what seems to be an overkill of suspensions being handed out, I just thought for sure Lucic would have received something.

I grew up watching the Sabres my entire life because of my father. To watch how the game is played from then to now, its a joke. The team we have not compared to back then…If you could take all the guys, put them back to the age they were back then and play the team we have now, the team now would be crying to get off the ice and asking for suspensions to each player. We have a bunch of babies on the team and we need to get some older talent that has some muscle to them. I’m sick of having the young team every single year, then when they finally get talent, we dish them off to someone else because we dont want to pay for them. I know we have an owner now that will pay… but we still have a cap on how much they can pay.

All in all, hockey is definitely not what it use to be and I really have lost a lot of interest in it compared to what it was. I’d love to play again, but watching it just isnt the same is at use to. I’ll still watch, but you know what I’m saying. Every once in a while, I pull up old footage of guys beating the shit out of one another… I’ve come across like 3 videos of my father, but would love to find more know that he has been in a bunch of scraps. lol

http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Video-Tyler-Myers-hits-Danius-Zubrus-Shanaban-?urn=nhl-wp17635

If he gets any suspension for this hit I personally will be furious. We have been bitching about his game and not being physical enough… he finally hits someone with their head down and drops him to the ice (clean as can be) No penalty, but their is a chance he can be suspended. These players need to grow the fuck up and stop bitching about everything that happens! I guess this is my rant thread about hockey. Just sick of the lack of hits, phsyicalness…just the crying that happens if something hurts them.

Guys back in the day would get a stick to the face, get off the ice after fighting a guy… get stitched up and beg to go back on the ice again to get even again with the guy and/or just to keep playing.

Nothing will happen, that’s a clean hit. Zubrus put himself in a vulnerable position and paid for it. Sometimes you have to take hits like that for your team. He was trying to advance the puck to get a line change and made contact with the puck just before Myers crushed him. Had Myers stepped into him before the contact with the puck then possibly, but seeing as Zubrus made the play and was leaning forward, there was no way Myers could lay him out without making contact with his head. And the fact that Zubrus wasn’t seriously injured on the play helps his case as well.

Myers will prob get two games. It was a head shot.

I can see 1 game…It wasn’t intentional, Zubrus kinda hunched down to reach the puck at which point Myers probably had about 5" on him height wise. Looked like Myers hit his shoulder/chest for the most part and then kinda followed through with the head.

Here is a worse hit…no suspension:

The fact they are even taking a look into it is the bs part. Thats all I’m saying. These players need to grow a set and the NHL need to let them play.

Alfredsson sucks so good for him.

Guys, there is no way to remove ALL headshots from the game. What they are trying to do is remove the ones that are deemed intentional. When 6’8" Myers hits ANYONE, he’s going to hit them in the head…no way around it. The hits that need to go are the Richards/Booth and Cooke/Savard hits. Lateral movement, blindsiding and extended your elbow to clip their head. Way different from someone’s shoulder hitting the side of someones head.

Agreed with everything you said Beck. I’m just thinking of the Boyes head shot in the preseason where he got 2 or 4 games. Along the same lines as Meyers. Tough to say that it’s BS they are looking at it because they look at everything. With 4000 different types of social media I’m sure Shannahan’s phone blows the fuck up every time a player is bumped into.

He’s actually pretty good, I just hate him and the Sens.

Cooke is a scumbag anyway I can’t believe he still plays.
