OFFICIAL '11-'12 BUFFALO SABRES SEASON THREAD

No doubt about that, the Sabres response was utterly pathetic. I was expecting a repeat showdown of the Sabres-Senators line brawl after Drury got blindsided. But nothing came of it, which is just unreal. Given how the NHL is cracking down on hits to the head this year, I expect Shanahan to come away with something good against Lucic. There was definitely no attempt to get out of Miller’s way. He made a decision early enough to go right at him.

Problem is…He didnt hit him in the head.

Watch the hit again in slow motion. He hits Miller in the shoulder. Yes it was cheap. But Miller committed, its part of the sport in my opinion for taking that chance. If this happened back in the day, he would have just got 2 minutes and his teeth kicked in. I think the whole team kicking his ass would be better than game suspensions. It just goes to show our team will take shit from anyone who gives it.

I don’t hate Miller  I just found it funny he was in a slump and is now injured.

He is still a great goalie and will snap back…normal buffalo bandwagon shit/lynch mob style.

Yeah but at the same time I think Miller could see this coming and tried to protect himself as best he could. Bottom line is Lucic made no attempt to get out of the way. It’s a deliberate penalty and the fact that Miller now has a concussion as a result should carry some weight in the hearing. Just as Lucic gets inside the circle he stops skating, but rather than stopping or peeling off to actually play the puck, he carries right through into Miller.

Now, would I have done it if I were Lucic, absolutely (and I’m a goalie). It’d have to be fun to bowl over a goalie like that. I’m just pissed since you never want to see your hometown team get shafted.

Couple things. I think (and you as a goalie will agree) Miller should have gone at Lucic when he realized he was coming right for him… maybe took his legs out, what ever. I’ve been witness to this same situation and the goalie coming out on top.

As for what they will give Lucic for the incident. I hope he gets off with nothing. Maybe then it will pissed the Sabres off more and make them realize, they need to stop being bitches and actually get in a fucking guys face and show him some consiquences about the actions taken. Be a man and grow a set. Put your fist in the guys face if its that big of a hit. Hell he just rocked your life support (so sabres fans see it) You should rock his life into the ground.

Has anyone considered that maybe the reason nobody responded was because it was Miller who got ran? I really think there’s a large disconnect between Miller and everyone else. Even out in public, Miller is alone in the corner while everyone else is having fun.

I have thought about this since recently Lindy has mentioned that the team plays differently for Enroth. It could have nothing to do with anything, but it was a thought in my mind.

Nobody responded cause Gaustad was the only fighter out there. What are Vanek and Pominville going to do? Or Sekera? The response was appropriate for those on the ice. Myers could have stepped up, I know he fought a few times in Juniors.

FINALLY. Someone hit it right on the head. Anyone remember how Lalime gracefully rode the bench stuck behind Miller for the last years of his career. Lalime was vocal, enthusiastic and seemed like he had a great rapport with teammates. Miller on the other hand, shows this attitude of my shit doesn’t stink in countless ways in public and somewhat behind the scenes ( I attended two morning skates this year and both times he practices like a piece of shit with no interest and left the ice after about 30 minutes while the rest of the team was out there closer to 50 minutes before ANYONE left)
The red carpet event this year also reinforced this feeling about him being secluded or segregated from the team- he was the last to show up, which may be attributed to his popularity, and he was the only one that brought his wife along. I dont give a shit if shes a super model or if shes naked walking the red carpet with him, she had no place there and he has done nothing but suck since she came into the picture!

All in all, I agree that no one stuck up for him because he segregates himself from the guys and no one gives a shit about him. If any of you guys have played high level competitive sports and were forced to play with someone that was either publicly popular or famous for reasons not related to athletic ability, and had to deal with the feeling of that teammate being “different”, you can vouch for how the animosity can develop.

Look, regardless of it being Miller, Liking him or not. Its your goalie. I’ve played on teams where I hate the goalie, doesnt mean I wont stand next to him if someone is to come at him. You always stand up for a player on your team. If you can, you are a scumbag letting others get away with it because you personally dont like them.

As for people out there… Fine, maybe it wasnt the right group. Did anything happen later in the game where anyone was sent out specific to teach the guy a lesson. No. Thats where the problem is. Maybe you dont want your good players getting hurt, but how about later in the game sending guys out that will take a hit for the team and try to teach the guy a lesson.

The only thing I can think of is that Ruff is teaching them to not take the dumb panalties and try to capitalize on the powerplay. They are showing discipline. Whether people like that or not, I think shows that they are a mature team that isn’t going to drop to Boston’s level of playing dirty hockey and fighting.

You do realize Miller leaving the morning skate early is typical if he is starting. It’s usually how the media finds out which goalie starts. Other players for the red carpet event brought their kids, if they can bring their kids, why can’t he bring his wife? And actually his stats really haven’t varied since his wife came into the picture, read here http://www.sabresinseven.com/2011/11/round-and-round-the-goalies-go/.

Thank Jebus

Possible, but not likely. When do these guys stand up for anybody?

Really? If Ruff is trying to teach that, he needs to be fired. If teaching your players to be push overs and pussies is the way of hockey, then this sport is really going down hill. I’m sick of this stupid bs changing rules every single year. Cant put a fucking stick on a player without getting a penalty. Cant hit a player without there being a penalty. Soon fighting will be banned all together and you will get multi game suspensions. This sport is becoming very pussified. They guys coming into the league each year are becoming more and more like women. Play the game is was intended to be played. How it originated. Why dont we call this a different sport and create a league/sport known as Hockey, where it’s played with men and people that can play like it use to be.

Yes! myers being scratched. He has been nothing shy of terrible this year. How many things need to happen to your star players before you do something about it. hes the tallest dude on the team but plays as if hes smaller than gerbe. He stood and watched as vanek almost got his eye ripped out in the philly game too then when someone ran miller a game or two ago he grabbed the dude and asked him how his day was instead of smashing him.

And i totally agree with yeambu on everything, whether you like the guy or not if someone even ices your goalie let alone trucking over him and concussing him, you do something about it. Old time hockey if that ever happened 10-15 years ago lucic would be in the hospital after a bench clearing brawl occured. The whole game i was saying to myself its all good kaleta or cody will go after him next time there on the ice theyve fought him before and now they couldnt have a better reason to and it never happened.

This can be characteristic of goalies just in general. They are a singleton when it comes to this sport. Miller is relatively quiet in nature, so for him to even speak out against Lucic is a change of character.

Take any rookie goaltender and play with them in net, your team is going to step it up. Look at the Hawks the last two years with Niemi and then Crawford. The Sabres have too often relied on Miller to bail them out in the past. So when he’s not in net they actually wake up and play hockey for a change.

Good point, but as yamba6 said there could have been a response later. Maybe there is one coming, who knows. I’m looking forward to the game next Wednesday.

Exactly. The starting goalie can do what he wants. The backup goalie MUST stay out until everyone else is off. It’s not Enroth putting in overtime, it’s fulfilling his role to the team. Players need a goalie for extra practice, so the backup is always to go to guy for this on game days.

Perfect example here for everyone who thinks Enroth should be the new #1. He’s having a great rookie season so far, but anyone can easily shit the bed with their game. I have faith in Myers that he’ll get it back together. Chances are you’re playing your rookie season on a ton of adrenaline. That doesn’t get old until the following season once you have a summer off. If you didn’t have a good rookie year, you wouldn’t still be in the lineup by the end of the season, plain and simple. And yet every time we see a promising rookie, the mentality is that they will become the next franchise player. It’s not like that for everyone.

Yes I understand that, my comments were a bit misdirected. I don’t have a problem with him leaving early if he is starting but I feel he isn’t at the level he was two years ago. You practice like you play which is taught to little kids in every sport and I feel its applicable in this siutation

I got it!!! Since Miller cant play or practice, show him video footage instead. We can start with this one.

Surprised noone has said anything.

I am very happy with the result of the suspension situation.

Lucic was cleared by the NHL and has no suspension handed out.

I feel this is one big slap in the face for Sabres players. Now they need to get their heads out of there asses and next game playing Lucic, the better all make him pay for it. If nothing is done, they are a bunch of pussies. I am happy about the outcome because the Sabres should be hanging out the punishment in hockey, not the NHL.
