Alright, looking at more “rugged” devices, talking with GeeHee, my Continuum is having issues… It’s had a hard life, and out of warranty. Is the GzOne Commando a worthy unit? I’m not out for the latest, greatest, fastest, rooted, latest rom out there. I run my current device as is, stock. I use my phone for GPS running, biking. Use it actively teaching Group Exercise at the gym, Spinning classes etc. I stream the SHIT out of Pandora. Text too much, email a ton, attach and move around files some. I just know the device is dated a bunch, and as toughbooks they’re usually behind the curve to begin with, I just want to make sure I’m not taking a huge step backwards vs. getting something else and an Otterbox. Nexus is TOO big, I’m a mid size kind of guy, huge screen not important, and more of a liability than anything. I’m going in today likely to touch some stuff, as I haven’t seen much in person yet since shopping last. Any advice is appreciated.
Prog, coming from experience, Samsung is slow for updates, if you even get one. Stay online in contact w/Verizon tech, and document, document, document in case you have to jump ship and go to another device. Jeff is awesome, but he is only but one man, he didn’t build the phone, and his pockets are only so deep to back up Verizon’s schwag. I had Verizon Tech in line with enough issues to cover the switch to new phones if need be when I first got our phones, then I got a patch, reset/formated and I was in good shape. I’ll be there in Scammer-ville with my greenbacks soon for my next device soon.
I have the commando, rooted to just so I could ditch the stock crap I’ll NEVER use. It deffently helps alot.
All in all its not a bad phone, I HATE the swipe, but I’m just fine with T9.
The ONLY issues I have.
Now and then when typing fast, the keyboard minizes. I’m not sure if I’m hitting a button, or if its the phone.
Also if there is any sign of wifi It will try to use that even if its very weak and slow, just turn it off and proceed.
Also, if its THAT important, you can’t sync your facebook contacts into phone contacts. Syncing anything else works just fine.

Forget the “rugged” nonsense. Buy a good phone, put it in a good case if you’re that clumsy, don’t be a moron, and you’ll be fine.
Just get a RAZR Maxx when it comes out in a few days. Gorilla glass screen and splashproof so once in a rubberized case it’ll be just as rugged as the ones they market to clumsy lumberjacks, plus it’ll actually work well and it’s not that big when for when you want to strap it to your arm.
while the screen size is smaller on the gzone its really not much smaller than the gnex and its way thicker. I guess it depends on just what kind of stuff it might be exposed to. The processor and ram are really behind the times at 800mhz and 512 mb. Probably have to play with one to see if its too laggy for you.
Mine has seen the bottom of the pool, I’ve crashed on it, caught in rain storms on the bike / tractor. I miss my shirt pocket and it drops to the cement. pick it up and go.
Yeah, many good points. Toughbook logic… yeah you can drive a car over it, but it’s weak sauce.
lol OK. Maybe you should just buy a lot of 6 old g’zones or something.
The commando is working just fine for me.
I am thinking about going back to a flip phone of some sort, maybe the ravine 2. I’m bored with the smart phone.
Yeah, I don’t blame any of the phone issues on Jeff at all. I’m fairly convinced it was a physical (processor or something) defect with the phone. Jeff put the call through on Monday, phones were at my house when I got home from work on Wednesday. The thing I like is they give return labels, and you use the same box. A lot of companies leave it to you to pay for shipping and get your own box. I got everything up and running on the new Galaxy (which I think may be a refurb), and so far I’ve had no issues. Still have to switch my fiancee’s phone over to the new one.
Not sure if I stated this or not but I used Samsung’s twitter support and the response was very quick and helpful. Spam I’d get a normal phone probably with Gorilla Glass, and get an otterbox + ZAGG invisiblesheild screen protector.
What’s out (or soon to come out) that’s on the smaller side? I don’t need a tablet like Fry’s needs, this kinda needs to go in my pocket.
Droid 4, Razr Maxx, Galaxy Nexus, LG Spectrum
The sprectrum sounds pretty nice. All the right specs with an hd lcd screen and gorilla glass for $200. LG seems to not have the best reputation in android phones though.
Changed Jeff’s oil (no homo) and got a Razr Maxx when I dropped off his car. BIG  to him and his crew, if you’re not buying your Verizon products from him you’re missing out.
Appreciate the support, thanks guys
Anyone reccomend a task manager to see what’s running in the background? Samsung has one built in as a desktop widget, might be one on the new Razr Maxx, not sure, but haven’t found it. Not something to shut everything off automatically, just to see if anything is running that I didn’t close when exiting.
NO TASK MANAGERS…NONE…NOT NEEDED…STOP…
LOL, just exiting out of the browser with the home button leaves it active on a website when I click back on it. Is that still “active” and drawing? Or have they “fixed” that?
what do you mean still “drawing”? when you move away from a program it stops working unless it started some service (which you can stop by yourself in most cases), that is how android is structured and will never change this is not a windows computer
id stay away from the spectrum for a little bit, nothing but problems with the 4g on them right now
