This could offer protection. However, there are so many if ands or buts that it’s tough to trust just the ruling alone to protect the consumer.
It’s pretty cut and dry you CAN use 3rd party tethering apps
Now we’re getting somewhere. :tup:
Keep it coming. We had pages and pages of “must have apps/tweaks” over in the iPhone thread.
Someone talk me into or out of rooting my phone and loading the S3 leaked jellybean rom.
I like dolphin more than chrome.
If you are going to root/ROM, run a vanilla Jellybean ROM. I’m not sure what the progress is on CM10 (Cyanogen Mod), but they are known for stable ROMs. Their version numbering is such that CM9 is their ICS branch, CM10 is their Jelly Bean branch.

yeah, it does sound that way. I’m not saying I won’t do it. I’m just saying don’t blame me when it gets blocked or you get a letter from Verizon lol/
Root, download ROMmanager, backup existing rom, install whichever rom you want. Don’t like it? Just revert back to your original stock Rom. SIII is slated for October Jelly Bean however.
Just get

-customize most anything
-favorite feature is changing app icons. (handcent icon is fugly).

-i have a task for when my wireless at work is detected it silences my phone for me when it loses connection it puts on max ringer
-i have plug in headphone logic, so when i plug in headphones it asks me what music app i want, if i dont choose anything after 15 seconds it auto plays iHeartRadio
-i set it up to read my text messages while i am plugged in via headphones so that if i am running, driving, or just at work jammin out i can have things read to me.
-i set it up to turn off all radios except phone radio after 10 and when phone is face down so i dont get notifications when i am sleeping.
-set up custom text “where are you” it responds with the phones location and battery level. (to find the phone)
-set up custom text “scream” it will play a loud alarm on full volume (for when i am at the gps location and need to actually find the phone)
thats all i can think of right now… but its super nice
Pulse is a great news aggregation tool.
Then customize the shit out of your device.
Edit: I also use widget locker so that I can have a calendar on my lock screen and I removed as many icons as possible. I like a nice clean interface.
Oh, and get Google Now it is amazing. Its like Siri except I never have to ask it anything because it just knows what I want to know.
-it alerts me when there is heavy traffic on my route to work
-it alerts me when bills games start and keeps the score in my notification bar
-it shows me the weather (use a window?)
-if you have location specific information in your calendar it will tell you when you need to leave your current location to arrive at your meeting location on time.
-it knows the “Bacon #” of any movie star (# of connections to reach Kevin Bacon) “Ask What is Will Ferrell’s Bacon Number”. #TotallyUseless
Circle Launcher

Oh I also use lightflow to customize the color of my LED based on the different notifications that I get.
Yellow = Calendar
White = SMS/MMS
Orange = missed call
Red = low battery
etc…
This is also a good app because it lets you setup reminders. For instance the stock nexus doesnt allow you to have reminders for missed text messages, I handle this through lightflow (handcent might let you change that)
lol at circle launcher and ADW on a Nexus. Are you running a custom gingerbread rom too?
But yeah, get Google Now working while you wait for the jellybean update next month. Nova launcher is where it’s at for ICS (install it from the play store, then check for beta updates), and widgetlocker if you want to customize your lockscreen more than touchwiz lets you. I like doubletwist for locally stored music and OTA podcast subscriptions. Spotify is probably worth $10/mo. CBS Sportscaster Pro, fuellog, endomondo, mint, our groceries, nook, google play books, skype (it’s like facetime except it works for everyone even over cell data!), tapatalk, yelp, aldiko, akimbo, beautiful widgets, swiftkey for sure since stock keyboards suck, wifi tether
Nobody needs a package tracking app.
Whats wrong with Circle launcher?
ADW looked good to me, I guess I will have to try out Nova. Can you explain why these are laughable?
Check and see what’s not working first. A lot of dumbasses will flash the latest ROM just because they can even though minor details like the camera or MMS isn’t working.
I’ve played with CM10, but I honestly like a lot of what Samsung has baked into touchwiz. I’ve stuck with touchwiz based roms. (Make sure you only load AT&T flavor GS3 roms or you’ll probably bootloop and have to Odin back to zero and start over.)
---------- Post added at 10:22 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:20 AM ----------
They’re not that bad, just old. Jellybean and nova launcher (at least the beta) automatically reshuffles the homescreen as you drag icons and widgets around, you can drop icons on top of each other to create home screen folders that work just like circle launcher except it pops open rectangular instead of circular, and probably a bunch of other feature differences.
I hate touchwiz, but thats the beauty of choice and Rooting. Also Jelly Bean is a must.
I use circle launcher to “hide” certain things on my homescreen. AKA the circle launcher is invisible. Cant do that with a folder can you? CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN no clutter. Thats my goal.
edit: jsut because ADW is old doesn’t mean its not updated… It may not shuffle my icons like JB does, but that feature is not necessary at all for me. I think ADW is a nice setup
Anyone have a good keyboard app. S3’s sucks ass.
swiftkey
+1 on swiftkey… it was the first app I’ve ever paid for. lol
Oh thank you jesus. Android’s stock autocorrect is fucking awful if you’re coming from iOS. Now I finally see why so many of my android friends turned off autocorrect.
Carry on with your list of disappointments lol
I give you another week before we all chip in to buy you a godphone5 becase we’re sick of your bitching :lol:
Be patient, and learn to love tinkering.
It’s just funny because I’m ever so slowly making the phone really nice. But every tweak I do just makes it’s more like iOS. How can you be a droid fanboy when you admit the stock browser, messaging app, email client and keyboard all should be swapped out. That’s like saying Brand X cars are awesome, as long as you buy one and immediately swap out the engine, transmission, interior and wheels. “This shell they gave me to build off is great!” lol
I will say it’s fun being one of the few on here who have actually used both operating systems as a power user. It really helps you see through the all the fanboy bullshit.
Just so I don’t come off all negative, I’ll list some things that have really impressed me over iOS.
Widgets.
The quick access to all the hardware toggles from the notification screen.
The granular level of customization.
The level of notification customization in general.
The ease of loading new sounds.
The task manager and task switching interfaces.
The built in turn by turn nav (still want a locally stored map nav though).
The google integration.
That was always my argument my iOS phone just works and does everything I need great out of the box…I just hate hacking up something I need to depend on for work/etc
However I love Android and my nexus 7 is sweet for custom apps etc
I like my keyboard, email client and messaging app. However, I am using all stock android apps not manufacturer built POS apps.
