I love me some open source, community developed software. 100%. I love the communities that spawn from the open source environment as well.

However, I also understand that if someone feels they need some reasonable compensation for their efforts, in order for a good project to continue, that support should be given.

newsgroups have everything

So I have a tiny issue. I was downloading the s3 update and lost my signal. Update failed to install. I am trying to re download the update but am being told I’m up to date.

How do I unfuck myself?

the 15min refund window is good on any paid app once, if you go to try to buy it again after you refunded it once already then you dont get the option. technically if you are rooted and the developer put no sort of security in the app you downloaded, you can go into the system and just copy the app then click refund but you will be stuck with that version forever

apps I recommend are

“Slices for twitter”
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.onelouder.tweetvision&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5vbmVsb3VkZXIudHdlZXR2aXNpb24iXQ

“Android Pro Widgets” great widgets app for facebook, twitter, calendar feeds plus a bunch more and you can set different themes $2.50
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rdr.widgets.core&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5yZHIud2lkZ2V0cy5jb3JlIl0.

“Audio Manager” I use to quickly change volume of all the different settings i.e. (notification, ringtone, media, alarm etc)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartandroidapps.audiowidget&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zbWFydGFuZHJvaWRhcHBzLmF1ZGlvd2lkZ2V0Il0.

“Splashtop Remote” similar to logmein but not overpriced and works very well $19.99 regular but on sale now for $9
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.splashtop.remote.pad&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zcGxhc2h0b3AucmVtb3RlLnBhZCJd

“Root Explorer” probably the best file manager app out there, there are free ones that do similar like “Astro file manager” but if you ever root “root explorer” is the one you want since it will get you anywhere in the OS

“Beautiful Widgets” is my favorite clock widgets app, they have tons of skins
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.levelup.beautifulwidgets&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5sZXZlbHVwLmJlYXV0aWZ1bHdpZGdldHMiXQ

“Extended Controls” basically just like the quick controls widget that is already on the OS but gives you a lot more options
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.extendedcontrols&feature=more_from_developer#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEwMiwiY29tLmV4dGVuZGVkY29udHJvbHMiXQ

omg news groups!!!

Fiancee’s Galaxy Nexus is now running Jelly Bean officially.

same here, although I flashed the update files myself. it’s a pretty great improvement! Very smooth, very fast. Google Now cards are really innovative. The voice search is good as always and seems to work really well.

I gave it an arbitrary location the other day: “Navigate to Burger King on Jones Sausage Rd.” This is just off of a local interstate and the burger king address is not even on that road, but it’s right off the exit. Found it immediately and navigated me right to it. I love that.

I diverted myself the other day from an accident on the 198. Just for poops and grins and did a navigate home and immediately started the Google Navigation. I use the “is it going to rain today” command all the time. I also used the “Did the {SPORTS TEAM HERE} win today”. Used it to find out the dolphins and the jets lost…bahahahahah.

I upgraded her phone by using the Google Frameworks trick, where you stop the Google Services Framwork, clear the data, check for update. I probably did this 50+ times over two days and several reboots after I saw the droid life article. Finally coming home from my sister-in-laws house it prompted…needed to be on WiFi though :frowning:

S3 jelly bean is rolling out, I imagine US carriers will be late october/early november.

i cant wait for Jelly Bean, had it on my nexus and cant wait for it on the s3

Google Now is super cool. First work commute with it was today. Without telling it where/when I work or even where my home address was, I got a card in Now that tells me exactly how long it will take to get home and where any traffic might be. That’s cool to the point that it’s scary lol. It is also suggesting eateries nearby and telling me whether or not they are open right now. Also have the weather for my current location.

I seriously don’t even need to search anymore to get valuable information. It’s all right there.

Exactly, its the best voice software because you dont even need to speak to it… lol, put in a meeting in your calendar with a location and a time. It will tell you when you need to leave your current location to arrive to your meeting location on time. pretty awesome.

Did anyone publish what google is doing with this info?

Not to mention those can be tweaked. You can also setup your home and work locations via your google profile I believe. Add your favorite sports teams to get cards on when they are playing next, the scores, etc. Weather can be set to only your home location or use your current location. The traffic card worked wonders for me seeing when the 198 is backed up, and I can shoot down Delaware.

I’d like to see someone use the flights card, since I don’t really travel. Maybe LZ once he gets his GSIII :stuck_out_tongue:

The info is submitted via user, it’s also an opt out feature.

Watching you while you sleep.

I assume it’s used to strip me of my freedoms.

Like I said though, I never told it where my work is, when I work, etc… It is guessing that. And frankly, for as long as it continues to guess it accurately, I will not do any action to confirm it.

If you’re using location services and have GPS on, they can and very well may already be tracking your location. They are pretty open about that. They are just now putting the data to use.

I’m not paranoid and don’t really care.

Usually people do some research and find out google is finding X way to profit from new X new product.

I know it learns based on your habits and GPS data i’m interested to start traveling with the Nexus
