Probably from your lack of a google device. Nexus 7 tab, doesn’t really count if you’re not using latitude or location services. Notice you can opt out and delete your location history. Personally I think it’s pretty neat.
To add, google also allows two factor authentication if you (<-- general term) are paranoid about your privacy/info.
I feel like such a noob, but I just figured out the offline maps thing. You can go into maps, pull up a location/area and hit settings - make available offline. Then it lets you select the area which you would like to download maps for. There is a limit to the size you can select. I tried getting the entire state of north carolina and it wouldn’t let me. So now I am downloading the entire state in chunks.
ok, so my phone is doing the same self-smushmortion thing it was doing last time where the OS just runs in some sort of crazy loop and sucks my battery like a high priced hooker.
What I’ve learned in my couple weeks in the Droidiverse is that if you’re not willing to read and tweak, read some more and tweak and read a whole lot more and tweak this is not the mobile OS for you.
It’s the Unix of the mobile phone world. Great if you like reading, tweaking and dealing with complete assholes who shit on anyone not willing to read as much as they do.
