Official Android thread

So… I am thinking about going with the Eris instead of the Droid. Won’t decide until I play with one.

I guess work is getting me a Droid…

this phone looks great

i switched to the iphone and no BBM sucks, but gtalk isn’t half bad and you can use it on the computer too…kinda nice. other then that, i’m not looking back.

wonder what the next GSM androids are looking like. it looks like an android might be my next phone with the way things are headed…i almost bought a myTouch last time around

word i still cant stand the thought of losing bbm, my touch looked cool to me too but t-mo can suck it.

eris is a good phone, pinch to zoom is AWESOME, its small, good touch screen. one thing i noticed, bit slower than the droid, both w web browsing and just general operation. and no flash for the camera. but it will only be $99 with a 2yr contract

do you know what the 1-year contract price is gonna be?

not yet, my guess would be anywhere between 180 to 250.

damnit, twice the price?

Some people who really have no idea what they are talking about should shut the fuck up.

You can sit there and not post, and have people think that you are a dumbass, or you can post shit like you have, and confirm that you are.

Whoa, didn’t mean to hit a nerve brosef.

Relax…its just a phone, I didn’t realize you were so attached to this phone. My apologizes.

it’s hardly that. its that what you’re posting doesnt make any sense and to everyone that actually has a clue, you sound really very uninformed.

bb tour vs droid, I know NOTHING about phones but if you had to choose which and why?

what are you using the phone for?

If you want something good for social networking/web browsing/games, get the droid/eris

If you are planning to use the phone for mostly email, some browsing, some apps, get the BB

Can the droid do email? Verizon seems to be down and I can’t compare the droid vs eris. Whats the major differences?

The Droid absolutely can do email

The Droid runs Android 2.0. Eris is still on 1.5. 2.0 has brought a lot of good inhancements. The biggest one is that it includes Google’s new (not to mention FREE) turn by turn GPS naviigation with voice recognition and all done via google maps. Also, 2.0 brings multi-touch support. The biggest difference(imo), is that the Eris is running HTC’s “Sense”. It’s basically a “skin” or modified front-end. It’s designed to make things a little easier to use.

Hardware-wise, the Droid has a physical full-qwerty keyboard, Eris is virtual only. Droid has a larger screen. Droid has a more powerful processor. Those are the major differences.

Thanks board, I haven’t bought a new phone in 3 years and have decided change is good. I think I will be picking up a droid over bb.

does anyone know why multi touc is disabled on this version and not the european one? Seems to be a feature that would have no reason to be shut off.

probably because Apple claims to have that idea patented, and they didn’t feel like arguing it.

You should note though, that the programming API DOES have multi-touch support. That means any 3rd party apps can be coded for multi-touch.

VZW, Moto, and Google have all been very tight lipped on why its not enabled natively.
