F-ME i backed up my current setup, and tried to go back to the stock rom using a backup i made. After it restores it won’t boot, it just sits at the motorola logo… then i tried restoring the backup i just made and i get an MD5 checksum error…
i hope you have the latest OTA update on your sd card
OK so one guy says it’s not. Another guy says it is. Either way it’s newer so I’m going to play with it instead of working.
no, i have a SBF on my laptop which i left at home today…
Well that was a pain in the ass. The update wouldn’t play nice with my SBF flash back to 2.2. I tried redownloading a couple of times and nothing worked until I reloaded maderstcock340, now it’s loading.

Blah. The damn thing is booting into the boot loader now. I think one of the 3 finger salutes fixes this but I can’t remember…

There we go, reflashed the SBF, then installed the gingerbread update and it booted.
Fry are you on the original droid?

He’s on a Droid X
I just scored over 1900 on quadrant on the stock clock speed. Not too shabby, for whatever that may be worth.
Think I’d be able to just unroot with z4root (I’m on the maderstock340) and then load this one
or
Can I unroot when it comes OTA and just do it that way?
If you’re on stock 340 then you’re good to go. If you’re waiting for the rooted release then you’ll need to be rooted to install it anyway. Team black hat is supposed to have the rooted deal out late tonight. They say it’s a 3 part deal that has to all be done at one time from clockwork recovery. If you don’t do all three in the same recovery session then you’ll have to SBF back to stock and try again.
You’ll have to use the Droid 2 bootstrap. Not the droid x bootstrap.
Here it is. Latest gingerbread build for the Droid X, rooted.
I’m on the DX, but waiting for the Fabulous - Apex rom to be leak supported. There is a leaked theme that works but it’s kinda meh ATM
I nuked my DX on Sunday, and when my replacement came in I remembered how ghey the stock Android software was.
What does rooting your x do for you? I never looked into this.
It gives you permission to do advanced shit like install free wireless tethering programs, install custom roms that work way better than stock Motorola roms, overclock, etc.
Free Porn…
PDAnet does tethering for free. Worked well for me.
Is it that hard to root your phone?
Some are a bit harder than others…Most of the older/popular phones can be rooted in about 5 minutes.
Here is some reading/help:
honestly 90% of the people that root will see no real benefit from rooting, not to be an ass but you are probably one of them. there are very few things you can do with root that you cant without, the ability to flash roms would probably be the big thing IMO but i have not found a rom that I cannot live without and does not have problems that piss me off to no end
