I had the sae problem, but it went away when i uninstalled te updates, and dsabled automaic updates for maps
no gps here on a droid 1
No GPS here on my DX since last week. Looks like someone clogged all the tubes… ?
On a side note, does anyone know if the DX can be rooted safely? When I first got it, I recalled hearing that it was encrypted and/or protected and would brick. I haven’t looked into it since. Anyone willing to help me out?
its not just in buffalo, or even ny, look at the review for maps in the market
Edit: interestingly navigation works fine on my asus eeepad transformer.
I just got off of the phone with VZW and the rude lady said “It’s all of the GPS satelites, affecting everything… even Tom Tom. It’s not a VZW problem, so there is nothing we are responsible for. We don’t have an ETA and we won’t do anything for you.”
(insert sarcasm) So… I discovered that my TomTom is magical and works fine still. Anyone want to buy it? It does GPS by itself! It works without the broken satellites!
WTF?
UPDATE:
Found a temporary fix that needs to be completed at every reboot:
- Download/Install GPS Test by Mike Lockwood
- turn on gps
- activate airplane mode
- run gps test - menu>clear aiding data
- exit airplane mode
- ???
- satellites seen and lock on
Rumor/Possible Explanation: Maps and Nav are assisted GPS so when you start GPS it goes to the network to get A-GPS info to get started.
Word is that VZW pushed an update to their servers in support of the 4G upgrade in NY that broke the A-GPS feed. This is not confirmed but sounds logical to me with the timing.
Can’t be rooted. Not possible.
it fucking amazes me what some people will say and think is correct. i would have fired her on the spot.
edit: maybe thats a bit harsh and im just angry at a million people calling about this stupid weather widget not working. but she would definitely know not to make shit like that up again.
I can’t stand people who would rather make something up than just say “I don’t know.”
By the way, I’m just being a jackass. The DX has been a favorite of developers since the day it came out. There are tons of custom roms out there, a month or so ago they even got Cyanogen installed even though the boot loader is locked. If you don’t know what any of this means do some googling. A whole world of rooted fun awaits you. I’ve been running MIUI for a while now and really like it.
DX running original cm7 build. Gps has worked fine for me.

depends on what version you are on, if you are running 2.3.3 then you cannot root it since no exploit in 2.3.3 has been found as of yet. the only way to root then would be to SBF back to 2.2 then root and flash the updates
You just made my day. Lol. I couldn’t believe she told me that. And Clean Baldy did you call a store around here or the 800 number because that sounds exactly like what the lady said to us. lol
lmao, I always tell people “there is a reason they are working at a call center” and that usually shuts them up.
Sun outages do occur, but they mainly affect tv network satellites not GPS or satellite radio.
it happens all the fucking time. one of my guys in another store, who is no longer employed by us, told a customer the only difference between an ipad 1 and 2 is the color.
I hope that was the reason he was terminated. The difference between the iPad 1 and iPad 2 is clear…it’s more betterer and stuff.
one of the many.
Anyone going to get the Bionic tomorrow? Looks pretty slick, though I had to laugh at BGR saying they liked it so much it’s so awesome it’s almost as good as a stock Android device.
It looks pretty awesome, but I might hold off for a few weeks. It seems essentially the same as a Photon 4G, which has great reviews. I’m sort of hoping that we hear something soon related to the next Nexus device.
Yeah if waiting a bit could net you an android slab with similar specs but an unlocked bootloader it would probably be worth the wait.
Personally, I’m just hoping Blackberry can stay in business long enough for me to grab one with my upgrade in April. I want to grab a Blackberry so I have a solid phone/communicator and a Nook color for a hackable android play toy and e-reader. The DX does both decently, but neither really well.
Yeah, waiting is not a big deal to me, at all. Droid Incredible is a good device and runs CM7 (Gingerbread) really well. That, and $300 is tough to come by with a wedding in less than 2 months.
