wtf is up with briere…arbitration hearings don’t normally last this long, especially since he started yesterday at 10am
The Arbitrator has up to 48 hours to make a decision from the hearing
.
i understand the allowance of time, all i said was normally you don’t see them lasting over a day…
Sources tell TSN Buffalo Sabres star Daniel Briere has been awarded a one year, $5 million settlement through arbitration.
The Sabres now have 48 hours to accept the settlement or reject it and allow Briere to become an unrestricted free agent. Even if the Sabres accept the one-year deal, Briere will be eligible for free agency after the season. For that reason, the Sabres were rumoured to be quietly shopping Briere throughout the arbitration process.
In fact, Briere could be involved in a “sign-and-trade” within the next couple of days. Montreal, Los Angeles and Atlanta are among the teams in the mix.

theres no way they dump briere without sacrificing all the fan support they gained this year
ugh
fucking regier
he needs to learn the art of the multi year deal
granted, he gave tallinder a 4 year deal
but why let briere get to arbitration??? why let it go this far… i bet if he threw a multiyear deal at him, he could have been had for less than 5 mill a season…
I am a little pissed at briere. All that shit he talked about keeping the team together was pretty much bs. The CBA seems to have hurt hockey cause that is what most players are going for lately is 1 year deals. All the teams are gonna have 40% turnover every season. This isn’t all management, this is the players doing this crap too.
why are you pissed at briere?
if there isnt a long term deal on the table, he cant sign something that doesnt exist…
regier is notorious for doing this. he is reactionary instead of anticipatory of market trends. he could have locked mckee up long term at any point this season. but instead he stubbornly sat back and then we lost him.
when you react to any market, you are either going to pay too much for what you need, or you simply wont be able to get what you need.
when you anticipate the market, you can swing deals that are at or below their true worth to you.
spacek = good deal
tallinder = jury is still out
mckee = neutral, should have signed him earlier
grier = neutral, he will be missed, but we would have overpaid to keep him
pyatt = good, he had his shot, and we have too many forwards anyway
briere = horrible deal, 5 mill for one year is too much, should have signed him to a long term deal before arbitration
campbell = ok deal, should have been longer
yea rob, you can’t be mad at briere
guaranteed he was asking for a long term deal probably in the realm of 4 mil a season, and regier was maybe offering him one or two years
that decision took 72 hours…what about all that blah blah about 48 hrs??
i agree rob…he was the one going on tv saying “i hope darcy keeps the core of the team together for the long run…blah blah blah” well he is the one fucking up keeping the core of the team together…hate to say it but accept his one year deal and dump his ass…Ive already read that the sabres were trying to shop briere during the arbitration hearings…Montreal, LA and Atlanta were looking at Brieres services…
I say ship Biron, Briere and a draftpick or prospect to Detroit for Zetterburg
how is briere fucking up keeping the core of the team together?
i think this might be my new favorite conclusion, because there is no justifiable way to put this on briere unless you have verifiable knowledge that he was given an offer of more than 2 years in length and he declined it. which you dont. so where are you basing your opinion of briere on?
given darcy’s track record i would definitely lean towards him only offering a 1 or 2 year deal… which is bullshit. if you extrapolate brieres stats from last year over a whole season, he would have scored 40 goals. hard to argue with that. not to mention the offensive production in the playoffs.
regier already fucked up the briere situation. as soon as he went to arbitration, briere probably looked at that as a slap in the face.
Because this isn’t one sided who says that he didn’t say that he wante a year deal during the arbitration? I would bet $1 that he is going for a 1 year deal because that seems to be the trend in the nhl lately. ALOT of players are going the route of the 1 year deal.
no way, not him for all the big game he talked
if he says anything about it (probably next year after he leaves)i guarantee he’ll say darcy nixed the multi year contract
see examples of michael peca, jay mckee, etc etc…the list continues…
Darcy was offering a four year deal, he said so in a news conference about signing Tallinder.
Briere is a hypocrite.
He just wants to ca$h in, he saw the huge numbers being handed out. Now he’ll get his sweet 5 million this season, and be UFA next season and really rake it in. Way to take one for the team Danny boy!
on a positive note, TSN reports that Ales Kotalik has signed a multi year contract
