Shoes probably aren’t as important as a lot of people think. As long as there is a good amount of cushion between you and the pavement, you’ll be okay. In fact, over supporting your foot with shoes can make them weaker in the long run. Your feet are a major part of the mechanics of running and need to get stronger with everything else.
@GV1390 - Gonna do 5 on Saturday if you want to head out.
Any good reading for this to review? I have never been a runner so I am sure my form sucks.
Merrell but they have some miles on them. I need something with more support as after about 3 miles my ankles really start to bother me so I am going to Fleet Feet as people have told me and getting a decent pair. I was worried about having to spend $300 on a pair of shoes for someone who casually runs 20 miles a week but people say its like $100-200.
Anyone have any trails around here they run? I keep hearing shorter distances on trails is better for a overall workout so really looking to see if there is trails close that would have this.
you should really go to a running specialty store and see if they offer a program like I explained in my previous post
on a scale of 1-5 with 1 being minimal support and 5 being like running in a malleable cast I ended up getting a suggestion of needing around a 3-4
the same store I went to also took molds of my feet and made custom insoles but they charged $100 for them so I passed and just picked up some aftermarket heel/arch support drop ins
currently I use these to run during the week when im at my apt

but I stopped at the nike outlet a month ago and found a pair of flyknit’s for a steal so I leave them at the gf’s place so I can run when I go down there
Beer
The more I exercise, the more I drink it seems.
Some people really enjoy running, I probably never will. My only physical complaint is that if I try to run vs jog It’s like breathing through a straw.
That’s probably why I dislike it. 90% of the time I’m trying to go fast enough that I can avoid walking because I can’t breath or my heart is about to explode. (thanks Advair)
I did that evaluation when I was at road runner sports in NJ, it just seemed like a ploy for them to sell you some overpriced insoles. If you go to a decent running shoe store like fleet feet or runners roost they should be able to steer you in the right direction on finding the right shoe for your running style & body type

Reading material: Not really. This is something that you need to learn through proper practice with some who can watch and help.
Trails: I run at Chestnut Ridge every so often. Did a quick 3 mile run there last night. It’s a gem of WNY and the trails are technical enough to keep you having fun as you go. I highly recommend it.

If you go too fast too soon, you’re gonna have a bad time. Train properly and see if it helps. I know a bunch of people with light asthma who continue to run and are fine. However, if yours is more severe I wouldn’t be asking for advice on NYSpeed.

Agreed. For specific cases that may be necessary, but in general the over the top designs of running shoes are bullshit.
10 minute mile here the other day. Still sucked hard. Granted, it was on a treadmill…
Not looking for advise. Just whining about being a shitty runner ![]()
I used C25K initially, and i’m light years better than when I started. I have no plans to train.

So I started jogging this past week…It was pretty embarrassing when my wife ran a 10k with me - she ran the entire thing without stopping, whereas I had to stop and walk every so often just doing the 5K (2nd half). Time to stop being a lazy POS
I stumbled on this C25K free app, it’s pretty cool. I had a “baseline” of being able to run/jog a mile in 10 minutes without walking, which I considered my starting point. So yesterday I did the week 4 day 1 workout and completed it without difficulty (actually probably could have kept going), but the walk breaks were pretty essential in me finishing the workout. At this point my legs are definitely my weak point, my lungs aren’t that bad yet. Picking up a set of shoes this weekend.
Anyone else use C25K?
I have horrible shin splints, good sneakers do not help.
Any suggestions?
I recently bought a pair of Asics that are awesome and have helped tremendously. @cougarspeed swears by Brooks, I’d give either a shot.
Anytime you fggts want to run, let me know, I’ll jam some miles out.
The important thing that app taught me was to go slower that I can, if I want to jog more than a mile.
It also taught me I should have started running/exercising 15 years earlier in life.
I also used strava to record my progress.
It’s a great app. I’m currently on Week 4, day 3. Pacing is tough. Also trying out actually training for a run where it will be held - never knew how hilly Como Park is.
Bumpppppp.
Anyone (besides Norb) running the trot?
fuck no
Beer.
only going for the beer
Im going to run it if its decent out
I’ve had too many airport layover beers lately fufufufu
