I do not like running, but I also do not like being a fat slob.
I only do it because it’s super cheap and it works. It should not really be called running unless one is actually running. 95% of the people I see are jogging. (myself included)
C25K helped make it so that I do not actually convulse and die while trotting.
I ran home on my lunch to grab my bicycle and ride back last week. a sweet 11:00 minute pace over 3.2 miles.
As bad as it is, I used to average 9.5-10
Being old and fat sucks. It sucks a little more when the guy you work with is usually in the top 5 at the challenge.

Yea I like it because I go out for 30-40 minutes and just go. I don’t have to wait for a machine or a packed gym with bros. Just can go on my own and clears my head. Helped a lot with my anxiety at night as well when I had trouble sleeping.
lol it was 1 mile as fast as I could go.
Going to run a 6:01, will report back later.
im waiting
ran 5mi today. it was gay
I ran 3.5 last night and went slower, fufufufu.
I just started another training schedule to run a full marathon come September. This might be the last full that I do for a while. Half marathons are a hell of a lot less time consuming and it’s fun to run faster.
Any big events for you guys?
I’d like to complete The Mighty Niagara Half in September but, my body says hell no so I’ll probably wing it anyway.
Yes, running sucks and is boring as hell so I highly recommend this event. Be a man and do the 100 mile loop with 13K feet of climbing.
I believe my friend Ben Badagliacca does something like that…I may need more hamburger-meat to tackle that kinda challenge.
My only motivation to run is to be able to drink tasty beers later.
All this complaining about running. lol. It certainly isn’t for everyone but if it’s that uncomfortable for you guys, have you considered that you may need to change HOW you’re running?
explain plz
let me add that I have crazy knee pain throughout the day where it just comes and goes. running certainly aggravates it but I do it anyway.
I have gone to a shoe store that specializes in running shoes where they put me on a treadmill to measure my gate and stride then suggest a type of shoe to purchase based on the results.
I bought extra supportive running shoes but still the problem persists and finally just went to the doctor about 2 months ago to address it and I was sent off to physical therapy for more diagnosis…
well turns out I have whats called “runners knee” and there isn’t really a way to alleviate it short of surgery
It’s not so much HOW I run, because I can run and can pull off a decent mile without hurting, it’s the mental behind it. That’s why I play sports like hockey, or ride my mt bike… because it isn’t mind numbing while doing it.
I have some friends that were very out of shape but caught the running bug. it’s almost like a drug for some people… but I just don’t get it.
If you have a specific case or injury that’s obviously one thing. I’ve come across many people who complain about how much they hate running because of how much it hurts when it turns out that they just run like shit. Heel striking, bad gate, sloppy form, etc. Humans are designed to run, we’re just trained out of running properly.
I trained with a friend who is a physical therapist and has competed in multiple marathons/ironmans/ultras. He gave me a few things to keep in mind while running to clean up my form and it completely changed the game for me. Speed was on the back burner. Focus on form and comfort and speed will come on it’s own.
Again, this won’t be a fix for everyone but the vast majority of people who I’ve come across that complain about running either don’t run properly or didn’t train for long enough to be comfortable with it.
@Paulo, let me know when you go out next, I’d like to pick your brain and hopefully pick up some solid pointers. I do know I heel strike and am in need of new running shoes.
I have never given much though to form while running, maybe I should educate myself.
I recently got some pointers from a runner buddy of mine and realized I was heel striking. It was killing my ankles doing that and couldn’t figure out why. Focused more on not doing that and had little to no pain. Still hate running though. It is boring, but hard to beat the feeling after a nice run.
