Official Summer 2007 Tire Thread

Well summer is near by and I’m sure everyone is looking to run new rubber for
the summer.

Whether it’d be high-perf summer tires or even all-season just for daily driving,
let’s see what everone is (or plans to) run this summer. Maybe give us an idea
as to why you plan to use those tires.

Here’s my current choices of tires for the summer.

My reason for the FK452 is that it’s gotten good reviews and is competitively
priced and had good features. The same goes for the 512. I just need them
for daily driving and I’ve read good things about them as well.
And both have fairly good ratings from 1010Tires.com

Summer Performance: Falken FK-452

All-season: Falken Ziex ZE-512

im runniong the falken ziex,

there alright, cant beat it for the price for new tires.

i payed 208 us for all four tires with free shipping to the us.

falken ziex has softer sidewall than my bed

federal 595s actually are very similar in grip to the falken 452, and 1/2 the price literally. falken tires are pretty good, but are overrated now. 452 would cost you around 700$ AT LEAST for a size like 225/45/17 while the 595s will cost around 530 for the same size. $200 difference is a lot. Ive heard nothing but good stuff about the 595s, whether it be drifting or normal driving.

i would try the following tires, in order of which is the best bang for the buck.

Federal 595 (zilvia guys swear by these tires, and would pick these over the 452s)
Dunlop Direzza DZ101
Kumho Ecsta SPT
BFgoodrich g-force kdw

also, look into hankook, they got some pretty good tires.

there are more tires obviously, but those are the tires i would personally try with a budget in mind.

I am going with Federal sport 595 again i just need 2 rear tires the fronts are still pretty new i just got thne last summer, i am happy with the tire…they are pretty hard so they tend to last 1 year for me haha

I’m actually going to probably run the 512 Falkens for my first time ever.

If I had a little extra money to throw around, i’d do Yokohama’s, probably AVS ES100’s, hands down.

Kinda want to try the Falkens to see the difference too though.

no you wouldn’t, unless you like using the tire till its 50% and then throwing them away since they are literally useless below that tread point.

The sizes I’m looking for at the moment is 205/55/16 for the all-seasons.

Not sure what the summer ones would be as they would be dependent on the
rims I end up getting. If I get rims.

I forgot to mention; where (shop) are you buying the tires from?

I’m running “Fierce” 245 45 Rz-17 they’ve got a 440 tread wear, so they should hold up well. As well the price was more than reasonable.

tires23 has the best prices locally since your from the west end.

i would say they are probably one of the cheapest places to get tires in the GTA.

i called Wheels Direct and their prices are still higher than tires23, and wheels direct is located in markham.

note: tires23 carries the most variety in tire selection than anyone i know (that have reasonable pricing). wheels direct carries the main brands. they can’t get the import brands like falken and federal (i know since i just called them asking for falken 512s for my parent’s car).

Sounds good, I’m gonna hit up Tires23 this weekend and get some numbers. Thanks d

Hmm…noted.

I plan on getting my Falkens from my mechanic, unless he can’t beat “steve-o”'s sale prices (he has a thread somewhere).

BF-Goodrich G-force (not sport) FTW

KDWS… ZR rated high performance…

if you know anybody stateside theres these - falken ziex ze512’s

$75 per tire, so prolly aroun 85 cdn each

dont know tires23 prices, but something to compare it to.

I’m thinking RT615 once my Hankook HRII’s are burnt out. That’s assuming I can get my car driving. :-/

As soon as I burn my Dunlop Sports up - I’ll be running 275/40/r17 Mickey Thompson Street Radials

running es100’s now

planning on switching to hankook z212’s or rt615’s mid summer

lucky me i get tires at cost

I got a good quote from Tires23 couple of days ago for Falken Azenis RT-615 tires.
So that’s probably what I’m going with this summer

Ran Kumho Ecsta MX’s last season and will finish them off this season.

Best tires I’ve owned by far. I’ve also tried kumho 712’s, dunlop fm901’s, es100’s, toyo t1-r’s and none of them have come close.

Walter, those MX’s have a UTQG rating of 220… where as the other summer tires you mentioned are around 280-300… those MX’s are probably a lot stickier but they do wear out quicker.

you speakith the truth.

they’ve held up pretty well for having 2 track events and lots of spirited driving on them.
