Ah ok.

And all taken care of. Went up there with a fresh set of plugs around 4. Parked the trailer at the public ramp East of town. Drove over to the parking area East of Dockside bar. In the middle of throwing the plugs in, one of the dock managers stopped by. Older guy named Art, who we met Saturday walked over. He said he’d be happy to shuttle me back from the ramp to my car, once I tied up the ski.

Anyway, started right up. Rode the river for little bit, but choppy as all hell. Loaded up, and done.

Now to figure out why it’s running so rich.

Thinking about picking up a jetski…am I reading that you guys take it up and down tonawanda creek?
You have to maintain 5mph/no wake in there right?

Spent some time out on the ski this weekend. Water was really rough except for the west side where it’s sheltered by cliffs. Wind didn’t let up at all the whole weekend which isn’t typical.

Nice

Everyone I’ve casually talked to about this has told me that with PWCs, too much idle time and you’ll kill plugs because they’re not designed to cruise rivers, etc. Basically they need to have the crap kicked out of them. My response is always that it’s just another motor and if it’s not running correctly at idle, fix it.

Let’s get @capitalcrew in here, he seems to have a good amount of PWC knowledge.

I’ve done this only once actually and it killed my plugs and King’s plugs. It’s a nice area though but having to go so slow is annoying after a while.

What lake?

Canandaigua

I’m usually out there on July 4th weekend. My parents and I have a boat docked at Smith Boys at the South end, and spend a lot of time up on the sand bar

Yeah, the slow thing all the way from NFB got a bit old at the end. I suppose I should have hit the river first to blow things out before shutting it down. However, it’s a 5 year old ski. 4-stroke, injected. It should be able to handle whatever is thrown at it, including crawling along.

Weaver is backed up 2 weeks, so currently looking for someone who knows these things well.

I have a buddy who works in Service at weavers, if you are interested I can ask him if he wants some side work? @bracketracer

Yours is an older 2 stroke isn’t it? With oil/gas mix they just don’t like to idle for that long. Not sure what the appeal is of being stuck in the canal’s no wake zone all that time anyway.

Absolutely. I pay well for quality work, and I’ve even got a perfectly nice shop for him to work in.

With us, there are a couple of reasons:

  1. my boat still isn’t ready to go in the water, but even then, sometimes it’s nice just to tow out, drop in, and be ready to roll in 5 minutes. A medium-sized boat is much more of a pain.
  2. never really having spent any time on there, it’s kinda cool to check out the houses, boats, docks, etc as you’re just putting along. We enjoyed the hell out of it when we were in there Saturday

Yeah it’s a fun lake. Crazy boat traffic this past weekend. The Sand Bar is always packed it seems.

what would happen if you…“turned it up a notch”? I would be more worried about hitting something in the water then a car driving by and calling in my numbers. Or am I wrong?

In this area

Yeah it’s a bit different that bracketracers. The bigger problem at slow speed for me is stability, lol. I’ve had 2 friends ride my ski; one couldn’t get on and gave up, the other got moving but kept falling off. I really have to be mindful of my balance.

I see the appeal, it’s nice to pull up and get some food. Even to hang out and grab a drink, etc. That area is actually quite nice. But I don’t prefer it.

There are quite a few patrols, and the homeowners along the water will call in the minute they see someone going past over the no-wake speed limit.

I’ll cruise up the canal to Dockside for food but that’s about as long as I can handle no-wake speeds.

Most of the area that you’ve selected has no limit actually, but you’d need to pay attention. I’m sure if you blasted by a dock area someone would have a problem with it.

I’m not a fan of riding in the creek though.

Uh, no. Most of that section is a 10mph limit and the section closer to the Niagara River is 5mph.

Technically yes, practically no. I grew up in that area and no one ever stayed under 10mph unless they were near someone’s dock as a courtesy. There was never any enforcement but it very well may have changed.

Whats the worst that could happen if you went 25 through there, slowing down by docks of course?
I cant imagine people are looking to blow you in unless youre a total moron

If you’re on a PWC that produces little wake anyway, and not at top speed you’d probably be fine. JayS is coming at it from a boaters perspective.

The problem being that most people on the water hate jet skis because so many of them are ridden by assholes. I guarantee if you start regularly trying to run up and down that section at 20+ it won’t take long for your numbers to get called in.
