If they get called in, is it a slap on the wrist of do they take away your jetski?
I respect boats/people since I have friends with boats and go out on the water with them often. Only reason I dont own one is cost and space. Otherwise Id rather have a boat
Yeah, mine is like 700 pounds. Even at 5, there’s major disturbance.
FWIW, when I went back to the ramp from Dockside, there were 2 stretches, with no docks, no boats, and nobody fishing, so yeah, I opened it up a couple of times.
Honestly, just don’t be a dick and if you want to go fast go out to the river where it’s not a problem. If you’re taking your broken down ski back to a trailer once I doubt anyone is going to care. If you’re planning to buy a ski and make it your regular cruise to blast up and down the canal I guarantee people are going to notice and make trouble for you.
Yeah my favorite spot so far was that area around Gallagher Beach. Smooth inside the break wall, large waves outside the wall and tight areas to speed through with no issues.
There was also a guy there with a red civic, lowered on wheels pulling a PWC on a trailer. He even backed the car onto the ramp to get the ski in the water
I haven’t been on my ski in over a month because I’ve been stuck with house stuff. But there is a free ride this Saturday near Crystal Beach if anyone is interested in going. I’m going to try to make it.
Here are some shots of Ryan (I don’t remember his username here) on his SuperJet from the past few weeks though:
This kid is always down at the Dock with his girl. Pretty neat ski. Anyone know if there wold be rules for setting up bouies and setting up a few races somewhere? like in front of the windmills I have a bunch of friends with Skis.
That’s a really good question. I’m sure the no-fun police would find some way to shut it down. Probably using this really vague section of the NYS boating handbook:
Swim Areas - no operation permitted within 500 feet of a designatedswim area, should a designated access site exist within the 500 foot
exclusion area, PWC may access and exit at no more than 10 mph. Reckless Operation - strictly prohibited, examples of such operation
would be:
• wake jumping too close to other vessels,
• weaving through congested traffic,
• last minute swerving to avoid collision,
• any maneuver which unreasonably or unnecessarily endangers
life, limb or property, including carrying more passengers than is
recommend by the manufacturer.
I’m sure at least one cop in the dozen or so agencies we have on the water would consider 3 or more PWC’s racing around a little course “reckless operation”.
The other part I’m not sure about is anchoring the markers and then leaving them with just a float/marker. I’m sure there are some regulations about creating obstructions to navigation they could hit you with.
The sailboat guys have their little round and round regatta though. Of course they have a WAY different image slowly tacking around the lake than PWC’s buzzing around like angry bees. It’s hard to tell the sailboats are even racing unless you sit there long enough to realize they’re going in a huge circle.
I can for sure seeing someone having a problem like that. I am just curious why someone at sunset beach doesn’t get this going for more publicity. I mean they burn a boat down every year I cant imagine this would fall that much father outside the rules. Next time I have a run in with the coast guard Im going to run it past them.
Do any of you fools know Ryan Doberstein? He’s from WNY, now living in Raleigh, NC. I hang out with him every now and again. He came out to a wakeboard event that I put on in June. He’s an EME Team rider and rocks an EME Micro. Here’s a sick shot of him hitting the converging wake of two loaded wakeboard boats and busting a backflip.
Soooo many patrol boats. I’ve done this once with @King and it was cool, but on the lake would be more fun where there are waves

Also, I installed my new start switch today and took it out for a bit. Things seem aright, but I need a good few hours of testing before this Saturday’s free ride.
