DAWT
The American people are sheep as long as they can afford to be. As soon as things become uncomfortable I have no doubt that people would begin to pay attention and shit would hit the fan in a big way. When you remove the comfort of apathy people will get real pissed real quick.
As far as alternative energy goes. If we are the largest consumers of energy resources woudln’t it make sense to develop a source of energy that is a little more self sustaining? If the middle easy lives a baller lifestyle and their income is reduced, how can they continue to afford to lead some baller lifestyle. It’s not that easy to just give up a way of life.
I don’t think that if we stopped using the oil from the middle east that China would all of a sudden have some sort of leverage (but honestly I don’t know the oil market so I can’t say with certainty). China already has leverage in terms of manpower, lack of environmental restrictions, resources and the consumption of our old resources (scrap).
Either way, you take away an income and you can cripple an economy. Especially one soo built around a product.
The US has its own reserves for the reasons of national security anyhow. Why do you think we use foreign oil. Once it’s gone, we still have ours. AMERICA FUCK YEAH.
^^ I believe we have hit that level. Wait until the food prices catch up to gas prices. The end of summer food is gonna be so expensive its gonna be a problem.
good point, but
97-1 the Senate voted against Bush continuing to put 70,000 barrels a day into the Strategic Reserve.
I really feel that we are living in interesting times and that American society is coming to a point of self-realization.
The sand diggers wouldn’t have to give up their way of life. There are plenty of customers waiting inline. We have the political & financial leverage to guarantee us the largest teet.
This is why China is struggling for oil. They have such huge growth now… that if they were able to get the resources they crave (oil, and metal - to a lessor extent), they would be playing in the major leagues within a few years at most.
If we closed the Mid east spigot today, they would cry fo sho. It would be a huge blow to the collective economy, but it would not destroy it by any means.
Its really only a matter of time before they (MidEast) squander away their lifeblood, but I don’t think it’ll be in our lifetime. There is plenty of oil.
Disclaimer - this is based off of research that i did ~5 years ago, so I’m sure someone will pick it apart with Yestedays Wikipedia numbers.
We have access to plenty of oil too… but the polar bears. Fucking polar bears.
That is a good move and I was gonna post it if no one did. I did hear some stat that we have enough oil and natural gas reserves to fuel the US including projected growth in industry, etc for another 60 years.
There needs to be more alternative energy research and development.
Solar panel array in the Mohave desert anyone?
Some of us are but the other 99.99% are decades behind.
Everything is falling inline for NWO and we don’t even know it.
bah, it gets its own thread…
no one would bother clicking on that thread.
Talk about gas prices and everyone is in.
Can’t see the forest for the trees.
WASHINGTON - The Energy Department says it has canceled oil shipments into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve beginning in July when the current purchase contract expires.
The move came days after Congress passed legislation requiring the president to suspend the shipment into the reserve in hopes of lowering gasoline prices.
The Energy Department said it will not sign contracts for new shipments of 76,000 barrels of oil a day for the six-month period beginning July 1. President Bush had opposed halting the shipments, arguing that such a relatively small amount of oil would not influence prices. Current shipments will continue. The reserve is 97 percent full, holding 701 million barrels of crude.
We don’t need the Saudi’s to export more oil, we need to deal with our own fucking issues here at home.
#1, stop thinking that housing is the only issues we have to deal with in the economy. We’ve dropped rates so much trying to save a bunch of retards who bought way more house than they could afford that we’ve effectively killed the dollar. Weak dollar = high oil. $30-$40/barrel is because of the weak dollar.
#2, pass some new regulations for the oil speculation market. $10-$70/barrel is being added because of speculation. And the only people saying $10 are the speculators who don’t want regulators to cut off their cash cow.
#3, pass the bills that allow us to drill for more domestic oil. We know it’s there, sitting off the coast of CA and FL, but we won’t allow the oil companies to drill for it. Enough of this NIMBY bullshit.
#4, pass the bills that allow more oil refineries to be constructed. Not a single new refinery since 197x. You know who’s building new ones right now though? Iran. Yeah, that’s who I want to rely on to get my gasoline when the next hurricane shuts down production in the Gulf of Mexico.
#5, shut the fuck up about the strategic oil reserves. 76k barrels a day. Please. In 2006 the US was consuming 20,687,000 barrels per fucking day. Read that number out loud. Twenty million, six hundred and eighty seven thousand fucking barrels per day. And you think cutting off 76k is going to make a difference? Not to mention that reserve is what our economy will have to live on if shit hits the fan in Iran or Venezuela. 78-1 vote my ass. More political pandering at it’s finest.
So basically, stop looking for stupid fucking bandaid fixes like asking the Saudi’s to pump more, or gas tax holidays. Unfortunately the majority of things I suggested are all going to get blocked by Democrats, so it only leaves us the options of bandaid fixes.
I just heard that Venezuela is drilling for oil closer to us than we were going to drill but decided not to!
Great so we saved the enviornment to let someone else profit from it!?!?
I think some of you guys should run for some sort of office. Go out make a change.
I’ve been debating putting together a run at Amherst Town Board.
I’d have to go back and delete half the posts I’ve made on here so they don’t come back to haunt me though.
i like the idea though.
JAYS for Mayor!!!
JAYS for Governor!!!
JAYS for President!!!
they all have a nice sort of ring to them.
^ I’m too far from main stream and much too outspoken to ever get that far in politics. Kinda like Ron Paul.
I would vote for Jay for local government positions (state government) but not congressional or presidential. I think you’re spot on for fiscal policy in a local setting.
