I think My DSM count ownership is somewhere near 7 or 8.
I love them…sometimes.
I currently own 2 2g’s besides my S14 at the moment.
Antonio, what happened to the car sucks.
Truly it does but that kind of shit happens even in a tuned car.
I’ve had cars blow up on stock tune with stock everything. I mean holes in pistons, mashed up internals, you name it.
I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU TRADED THE SOLARA STRAIGHT UP!!!
That being said, Running a 2g maf on a stock 1g is in itself changing the maps around 20%.
Don’t argue it’s true.
SO, car DID run lean all the time
Unfortunately, it seems this wasn’t the cause of the engine failure.
Oil Starvation / Turbo Failure IIRC?
This has nothing to do with any of the previous statements.
The Tranny situation sucks, but unless you know how to read the codes, It can happen to anyone. Me included. Once he realized this, the corrected the final drive situation but the gear ratio is still all wrong.
As much as a swindler as this guy may be, as good or as bad as his workmanship maybe, I don’t think he is fully to blame on this one.
The past situations speak for themselves but this one is a grey area.
From what it seems though, looks you’ve managed to piss a lot of people off here.
Sorry you got ripped off solarian, but at the same time, the fault is on both sides. Solarian, especially when buying a dsm, you should have looked all parts of the car before buying it. having a good mechanic look at it can be golden.
Also, you had a SOLARA! A FRIGGIN SOLARA! Why in the world would you trade? More power (JZ swap), reliability, comfort, etc. Toyota to me is a tad more reliable than HONDA, and we all know how reliable they are.
Unless it was due to extreme financial reasons, (and i mean extreme as in paying mortgage, downpayment on a necessity) you deserve a “V8 splash” style smack on the forehead for making a dumb trade like that.:pat:
However, spooolin, you should have been more upfront on your part. not doing so has resulted in this thread which will now put a permanent “scratch” on your reputation. Other than that, i dont think you did anything wrong.
All-in-all, good lesson for everyone. happy learning…
I think anyone that was contacted with that deal would of done the same thing…
and as for the turbo… Im still scratching my head as to why it went… because I just replaced that turbo with one 2 weeks prior to trading… The one the was origionaly on it had a bunch of shaft play so I didnt want to sell it with a bad turbo… So in the end of it the turbo I put on was junk as well. I just dont understand Y because when it was installed it had NO abnormal shaft play.
But yes In the past I had some bad dealings… That was a long time ago…
But please if your looking at the forums Where I supposidly had a bad dealing… FIND ACTUAL PEOPLE THAT HAD BAD DEALINGS WITH ME… That ca.dsm board is full of people saying im a bad guy from 3rd person perspective… NOT from actually dealing with me. It was always blown up out of perportion… As for that lean On the car… 1. I got it off as soon as I was notifyed of it… 2. that guy that bought it was the other half of vindicate motorsports. (so I obivestly made him happy.)
Spooolin, don’t try to redeem yourself now. You got yourself a good running car and Solarian got a piece of shit. You definitely got the better end of the deal, and I believe that you knew what was going to happen to the DSM and that’s why you decided to sell it. And you said it was just a winter beater for you? Well, winter isn’t over yet, why would anyone sell their winter beater in the middle of winter? That alone is sketchy in my opinion.
You made your money at Solarian’s expense… so I’d kindly ask if you could just leave.
all in all this sounds strange to me spoolin seems to be a great guy no probs with my 92 talon tsi which i might add i bought the same day as he got the solara as i followed him to the shop pretty much he did all the work on mine and no problems with mine ive had mine on the road as much as u and i drive the s*** out of it but proper maintence is key high octane and check oil lvls u just need to learn how to maintain a car
Yeah that is definitely serious douchebaggery rubbing it in about how you he such a great deal. That alone could be grounds in court to “rectify” the problem.
But on the other hand older DSMs have had years of beatings, they do blow up. Regardless if the car was a shady, there is no way anyone could have predicted the turbo would start consuming oil and starve the engine. That has nothing to do with the tune or 91 octane or van tranny or anything explainable. If blue smoke is pouring out the back, its time to pull over and get a tow truck. Period.
Sometimes, things just go sour. I sold my old T25 turbo that was on my 2G ran like a champ for 120,000km, pulled high 13s ,beat on it for 8 yrs and no play whatsoever. Buyer installed it and it grenaded within 1 week?!
if your buying car that has all these parts n mods done. didnt you take a look at the car before u bought it???. or atleast brought someone with u that had an idea???compression test it on the spot(always) and if he’s not willing to let you, fine next car. i have done it too bought a car i thought was mint took it home. took it apart and i bought a pos. live and learn really. the next car i took a look at it got a full blown rectum inspection.
i say just hug it out guys.
but the solara runs great remark low blow. and for that i hope an asteroid hits you in the face
Jay, I hope the Solara keeps running great, I’m not a scammer, and I don’t want to be known for selling shit that breaks down or hide faults in anything I sell.
I really don’t care about anything you say or do, you can’t do anything to me, I’ve already taken this as a lesson to no longer just believe that people are honest and decent.
I’m not sure what people think I’m trying to accomplish here, since they keep telling me that I can’t ask for anything back. I never did, I don’t want anything from Jay, even if it’s free. It’s not worth the money
The reason I posted this, is because I saw him selling another car, and I wanna make sure he doesn’t burn anymore people, as that seems to be his profession.
yes the comment i made was a Low Blow and I edited It with reguards to that… MY bad.
also i want to add… that I was totally willing to do or let solarian do a comp test. As that engine was a newer JDM, I did a comp test and it was great at 145-150 across all 4. But thats Irrelvant…
I just Hope in the end you can get it running good and actually have some fun with it…
I agree with Osad, I’ve had very positive dealings with both Jay and Ant.
The only thing I was confused was…when the Talon blew the day of, you weren’t that pissed. In fact…you were laughing about it saying that you were a true DSM owner then. I did see the post where Jay offered to help you out as well. So what happened? Where did this blow up come from?
However, Jay is a good seller, by that I mean I’ve noticed that his posts are sometimes a bit exaggerated. However, with that being said, the sr he sold me seems to be working fine, albeit I still need to get some stuff done…but so far no complaints.
But instead of letting anger get in the way of rationality, I say you guys put aside your differences for one second. If Jay’s offer still stands and can still help you with your engine, why not let him? That will prove that he’s a stand up guy now and will help you despite the no warranty thing. While you can get your car fixed without any additional funds. That will actually fix the problem, not cause new ones for everyone.
You have to understand where a blow up like that comes from. I dont know either buyer or seller, but I fully agree with Solarian on this one. You have to understand he just got a Talon and was having fun with it and it blew up, he figures it bad luck and is not sure how bad the problem is right away so he laughs about it… life goes on. Then he does research to find out why his motor blew and finds out this guy has been scamming people like its his job… oh wait it his job. I would get pretty upset about this too. As for this post I think it is great to point out scam artists within a car community it helps everyone, but the scammer. Also to the poster that said Solarian should learn to maintain his car better LOL maintenance does not happen within half a day. nice try tho
I wouldn’t be too quick to judge that he’s a scammer
otherwise he would be getting bad feedback all across the board
everyone has a past…whether it’s a bad one or a good one. I’ve made my share of mistakes with bad deals (not even car related) before and I’m sure some of you have as well. The way I see it, is that a guy was trying to sell his ride. When doing so he presented it in the best possible light. Someone bought it, and it wasn’t what he said it was and now is pissed off.
If he were a scammer, this is easy street, you’re done with the deal and you’re laughing at everyone. If you are someone who is trying to protect his reputation, knowing full well of his past, he will offer to try to help.
That’s what I’m seeing here. The only thing we’re missing right now is commitment. We still don’t know if Jay is actually going to help him, or Ant will even take him up on his offer seeing that he is adament on not dealing with him at all.
So tell me…how are we really suppose to judge someone’s character when everyone is just talking shit based on circumstance and not on action???
That’s pretty much exactly what happened. I was fine with it at first, and was going to let him repair it, until I found out about his history, and decided to let someone with a good rep work on it instead. I didn’t want to keep fixing it, I wanted it done right. Then I got more pissed when the guy that’s working on it right now started pulling the motor out, and noticing all these hacks all over the place. Shortcuts were taken all over the place, and it was a complete rush job. Who drives a car with loose and missing bolts, missing gaskets and multiple vacuum leaks? Turbo is blow, fine, but now I have to get a new manifold as well, because he welded them together, and the clutch slave is gone too. There’s a right way and a wrong way to do things on a car, and this whole car was hacked together.
