Orr89rocz's 1989 Camaro Iroc-z 5.7L

It is very tight but the downpipe is going to go down between cylinder 5 and 7. i can snuggle a 3" down in there, but it will be close to the plugs so i may be stuck with a 2.5 which can work but its far from optimal especially if i want to push big power.

I will figure that all out when i get there, but i designed it to allow as much clearance as possible in that area. The pipes are right on the brake booster and such so i will have to wrap the hell out of that area to keep the heat down.

Quick mockup of that side. Downpipe fits very well, full 3" with just a mild bend, its gonna work out great! I’m happy with that. Wastegate will be rough and require alot more pipe than i was hoping but i got alot left over

Tomorrow i hope to get a great start on that passenger side piece. Should be easier now that i have one done and have a better idea what to build. Also have more room to work with

niceeeeeeee

what wastegate are you using

JGS 40mm wastegates

Sold the motor (383) today with my old cam. So i have a good down payment on my new Dart SHP idea. More than likely going to go with the 400 setup. 3.75 stroke, 4.125 bore. 6" rod with JE pistons for 9 to 1 compression. Should be fun. Just got to get some more stuff done with the hotsides

with the power you are going to be making you might want to step up to a sportsman block. from what i read the shp is good to only 600hp.

More progress

Passenger side started.

As you can see the driver side sits higher but thats the way it has to sit for the downpipe to clear everything, and for the housing to clear the brake booster. The passenger side is sitting abit lower which kinda sucks since i wanted it even as possible. Not the end of the world tho. I dont think its gonna clear the hood on the drivers side now that i look at it but I’ll see when I get that far. I dont mind trimming the hood to fit and maybe make some scoops to feed these turbos

As far as the block goes, they rate it at 600 but GM rates their blocks at 400 hp or so. Its a conservative estimate. SHP is stronger than factory blocks and factory stuff has been worked to over 800hp. SHP should handle 800. I’m gonna call tomorrow to finalize my order. I’ll ask about the Little M but its probly gonna be 500+ bucks more and I dont know if i need that. IF i had a little M i’d probly try for even more power and that just gets dangerous  I gotta cap myself somewhere

Now i gotta run wastegates and such… Kinda work on filling in some of my open areas on my pipe joints too, and around the turbo flange. Its all rough tacked right now

Very nice.

Looking good… Cant wait to see it at the track… when you planningon having it ready?

No clue. At the rate i’m going its not gonna be for awhile. There is alot left to do, and i hope to have it running n/a end of may-ish for motor break in.

ordering the motor this upcoming week, and not sure how long that will take, probly a month. I have to assemble it so give me a few days or a week for that. Still gotta fab up the rest of the turbo system/exhaust and do the fuel system.

I gotta track down a 730 ecm from a 91-92 car and reprogram it for the cyclone/typhoon code and once i learn how to tune that well enough, then i can slap the turbos on. Plan to break in the clutch/trans/motor without the turbos. I plan to use the new ecm to do that so i can get a feel for how to tune it. If not i’ll use my current ecm and 383 tune and it will run that motor for awhile to break it in.

If i’m going to do this T56 6 speed swap i still need to send that out to get rebuilt. Hopefully around middle of march i can send that out. Then need to do the swap itself which may prove difficult i’m not sure yet.

I’m gonna say June before anything realistic happens. Same as last year with the 383 build.

Depends tho, if the weather starts clearing up and getting warmer, i can move the car outside and really strip it all down and finish the exhaust up to the new ypipe and do the fuel lines. that will help me out alot. So who knows, i’m gonna try to do as much as i can but lately i just dont have the time or energy to work on it during the week.

Made a spacer for the passenger collector and now have even twins that will not clear the hood

Gonna cut the hood to allow the compressor housings to stick out abit. Gonna paint them black to blend in

looks good. forgot to let you know have some tubing here if you need it.

You got my PM right? You ordered some tubing?

I kinda wanted to stop down to show you these manifolds and some of the areas i was concerned about with the welding

yeah bring them down. and tubing here when ever you want it

jesus christ you can’t leave well enough alone?

last couple of days I started finishing up downpipe locations and wastegates. Still have more to do but here is what it looks like now
