Some crappy cell phone pics of the motor mockup real quick. Flanges on the header seem to be slightly warped but do pull in abit once tightened up. I think it will seal ok with copper rtv and copper gasket. I plan to use that setup.
Shortblock is together, just need to install the cam/heads. Oil pan is on its way so when that comes in I can put that on and its just about ready to drop in. Gotta order a flexplate/starter since I cant find a flex plate for a 11.5 bolt pattern converter and 153 tooth starter like stock, so gotta get me a ministarter for a 168 tooth wheel. Sucks…
I’m currently out of money… Gotta pickup the fuel system stuff Friday which has turned out to be much more money than I had anticipated so I’m drained for alittle while.
VS racing blankets, 250 shipped for the pair. You can find others for abit cheaper on Ebay that seem to work just fine from my research.
These flanges are already pretty thin as it is, machining enough off to make it flat isnt the answer i think. I think its more bent/bowed than warped. Just need straightened
And everyone on turbomustangs aka the turbo forum says copper RTV is the only thing to use that lasts…surprisingly i wouldnt think it would work at all. Some guys say copper gaskets work ok to but better with abit of rtv on them as well so that is what i’ll try.
Since the mani’s got to come off again eventually to get coated, this will be a good time to figure out what will work.
yea thats the reason i went with rtv only, too many people complaining about the copper gaskets blowing out. but in your case i would use dead soft copper and rtv
Thats crazy. I’ve tried this acouple times on my wastegate flange. I’ve used copper spray and copper rtv with gaskets and without on a warped flange. the copper will stay there for acouple hrs or until you beat on the car and get the egt’s up to 1200 degrees plus, then it evaporates. Look right on the label it says its only good till like 700 degrees, that might be ok for an N/A car but not a turbo as they are wayyyyy hotter. If its warped enough its gonna blow right through that stuff and hinder spool up.
old motor and tranny are out. Any final mockups will be with actual parts installed.
Awaiting a cam retainer plate bolt on Monday so i can finally install the cam, get the heads on, intake, oil pump/pan and get ready to drop it in. Once cam is degreed, motor can be final assembled. Just need a new knock sensor basically. Once its in the car I can add everything else i need.
Port matched the manifold today to the heads so thats done. Finally got my fuel system too. -8 feed lines, -6 return, regulator/filter, and dual walbro intank pumps with hobbs switch and wiring harness. Its all good but was pretty pricey.
What the hell happened?
A single year goes by and now all this…
06-15-2008, I felt like I was on par with your car in the 1/4 and was looking forward to lining up next to you.
One year later I check back in to how things are going and you have come this far?
what the hell was I doing this past year.
haha things change thats for sure. 6-15-08 i had the 383 in the car and ready to rip 11’s. 1 year + a few months later I have a 401 in the car ready to rip 9’s. Its crazy. This is my last build with this car. The only other thing i can see happening is an LSx swap to keep it more of a driver again and swapping the turbo motor into a older muscle car with more engine bay room to make it a strip street car. I may be moving to houston next Jan so I’m not sure the car can come.
Motor was finished up a few weekends ago, new motor and trans are in the car ready to go just about as of last weekend
This weekend I had thurs, friday off so i got started on the exhaust.
3" downpipes into 3" ypipe. Vband connections joining them.
merging into the old y collector from my last year exhaust. 3" inlets to 4" single outlet.
Dynomax muffler from last year in the same location except i raised the back end up alittle more to tuck it under the car more. Hung low last year but never really bottomed out. This year its up abit more and so is the front so i should have no problems with bottoming out on most roads/bumps
beautiful car! long road you’ve travled down too!
i know it was fun. i hope the thrill lasts a long time,
as in years to come we tend to forget how we were so
driven (no pun intened) to love our cars.
good luck in all your future endeavourse.
stay safe, and enjoy the summer.
