Yeah … actually I remember when Daimler was “merging” with Chrysler, a lot of people were saying “oh, Benz? Yeah, that’ll help Chrysler’s reliability issues.”
Then saw the stats posted and MB is actually less reliable than Chrysler, parts are way more expensive, service is more expensive etc etc.
Why would people shell out thousands here for what everywhere else in the world is a taxi cab?
Why would people clone JDM Zenki/kouki/180/Sileighty/270rs?
Why would they spend thousands and thousands of dollars to do so?
Are they a dumbass for cloning it? Would they be a bigger dumbass for forking out all the $$$ to get a REAL 270R?
Everything is a status symbol, whether you admit it or not. And usually for the same misinformation. The best clothes come out of Europe? Is that a fashion-oriented question? Because if so, of course. Style emerges in Europe, and a little while later catches on here. As for quality … I wouldn’t really expect european fashions to be durable or warm.
So if it’s not a question of durability, economics or warmth … it’s hard not to see it as status.
Then it becomes a question of economics. When 1/10th of the population can afford the “haute-mode” thing of the day, the other 9/10s demand the knock off. They want the look, without the prohibitive costs.
Kinda like clothing communism …
Sadder fact is that it probably costs about the same to make either.
So those that have the “real” deal tease those that don’t to justify the expense.
I think whether it’s bags, cars, watches, jewellery etc it’s all the same really.
