Pictures and story of what my ex-girlfriend did to her car, and now what should I do?

[quote=“ly555is,post:35,topic:32977"”]

from a purely monetary standpoint, it will never be worth it - based on the simple fact that even with a clean carfax, a GSX in great shape isn’t worth a ton. Imagine what a GS-T with a wreck could go for. Unless if it had some serious sentimental value… :gotme:

best of luck with whatever happens.

OT: I can’t think of any ex’s of mine that are worth half this effort.

Well it looks as if the car will not have a salvaged title, even though it was deemed a total loss. The insurance company, never asked for a copy of the title, so it was not “Branded Salvage” and she was not issued a 907A certificate. It has me 100% confused at this point. Now I am even more split on the decision.

1.) If the title is technically still clear, I might as well go ahead and fix it, then have the whole car resprayed. Drive it on weekends, have fun, then next year or so sell it on eBay and fetch my money back.

2.) I got a good offer on everything from a guy in Canada, (not sure how that will work) so I might sell it all to him. I could imagine the convo at the border. “Are you bringing anything back?” “Well what the fuck do you think is on my trailer?..”

3.) Or I might rip it down to nothing and part it out piece by piece (No real desire to do that though, Im just too lazy)

4.) Find a rustless 1995 GSX/TSi AWD Shell (with tranny and drivetrain) and go to town.

5.) I am not doing this for her really at all, I just really like these cars and I miss mine, so it seems like a bittersweet opportunity at this point.

OK. I had a carfax run, and the title is still CLEAR! I got the final estimate on repair work (right around what I was expecting), I think I am gonna go for it, and fix it. Atleast now I know the resale value will be pretty much fairmarket value, so I shouldn’t have a problem getting my money out of it. The shell is was very clean to begin with so it will still be rust free for a while. It won’t be a great investment, but at least I will have a fun car again in a few weeks!

I will post up pics as the work progresses.

ABORT MISSION lc

If you have the time and money, and don’t mind the work, do it up.

Fix it and drive it. Don’t let all the work we did in the rain go for nothing.

Just remember, someone that knows what to look for will be able to spot the fact that the car was in an accident from a mile away. Even if the body work is done right, there are still ways to tell.

These cars are easy to sell though. Ebay will find you a buyer!

The truth. I am postive I am gonna have the entire car repainted Sarrona Red, I want the body to be perfect. Then the opition will be to put a silver pearl in the clear coat, and I think I am gonna go for that. Then the car will be “different”, but then everyone knows it has been repainted and the such. Then the question of Why? Why was it repainted?

Either way, I am happy to have a DSM again.

Well, since the Accident will eventually show up on the Carfax, I would fix it, paint it, and then sell it as soon as possible to try and beat it getting to the carfax. just cause it is a clear title doesn’t mean that the accident won’t show up and people will ask about it if it is there.

just my $.02.

Good luck with it though.

An accident showing up on carfax is one thing. A salvaged title or rebuilt title, is another thing. That implies the car was totaled and then rebuilt and your title is considered 907A (Salvaged). That isn’t the case for me so even if the Accident shows up its better than that. The thing I am wondering since the car is 10 years if it will even be reported to carfax, the car is old now. Mileage is now exempt on the title.
