Piston kits??

ok so i think i will be busting the wallet for a piston kit this winter

now, my pockets are not too deep so i dont want to spend that much…around $1000

i will likely want to raise compression to 9:1…but dont want to go and re-sleve the motor (money issue)

the ones that i came across in a few mins of searching are:

do you guys have anny other suggestions or ideas of how to go about this?
some things to keep in mind are that the turbo will remain stock (t25), head ports are polished, greddy head gasket @ 1.2mm

i appreciate any input!

thanks

Hey man.

Well value for the money is the Toda kit. They make great quality products and back them with a super warrenty. That’s just my opinion though.

As for keeping your stock turbo, I’d do some research with guys who have raised there compression and kept the stock t25. You may find it won’t work as efficently any more. I am not saying I know for sure but, knowledge is power and the more you have with this the safer your motor is.

Let me know if you need a price on any JDM kits and I’ll see what I can do for you.

Take care and good luck.

Easy 8)

what do you mean by jdm kits Bruce? name some…

are you planning on making upwards of 600 whp?

no…around 350-375

why bother building the bottom end then your stock bottom end can hold 425 whp daily with no problem as long as you have a proper streetable tune

I think he wants more compression for more torque and response out of boost.

Hey man.

Companies like Trust, HKS, Toda and OS Giken make piston kits for the SR and Phil can most likely get those for you. I am not sure what the prices are but if your interested I’ll see what I can do.

Now for more response, that can come from proper dyno tunning, adjustable cam gears, cam’s, timing, different turbo, lightened flywheel and so on. While it is true the SR can handle some serious boost, realibility issues have to be considered. Making 350 ish can be done and still be a daily driver with no problems, as we all know from Project Silvia in SCC.

So before you are set on doing this, check around on a few boards and see what others have done before you spend BIG BUCKS on internals. Remember, when you change one thing, odds are you have other things to change too. Valves and Valve Springs come to mind right off the bat. I just don’t want to see you spend a ton of money on things you don’t need when you can get the same results from doing other, cheaper, things.

Just some food for thought man, Im not telling you what to do by any means so don’t think that.

If I can be of any help just let me know and I’d be happy to do whatever I can.

Take care brother.

hardly worth it for a grand + the downtime and work.

sideways basically sums up everything i was about to say

well i pretty much have to do this as i have a crapped out piston

i will post pics of it as i get them so that you can see the extent of the damage…it is pretty much melted and collapsed to sum it up…along with the rings - the block and sleves are a-ok

so i have no choice when it comes to doing something cheaper as in valvetrain and cams etc…

before the pistons came out and i saw the extent of the damage it was planned to simply fix the flat spot that the one piston had by sending it out to get machined and whatnot…even though it is still tecnically fixable…i just would not trust that method…

hence…i need new pistons!

Bruce…it would be great if you could get me prices for those ones you mentioned…although by looking at the names it sounds like there are some big bux involved…again looking to be around 1000-1500 cad

86.5mm bore 8.5:1 compression
86.5mm bore 9.0:1 compression

Hey it’s no prob man but no promisses though.

I will do my best.

Easy 8)

how did you melt the piston?

i dont know how it happened…im guessing that it was damaged in japan…i made the mistake of not doing a compression test on it befor i bought it…so i guess it was damaged before and maybe temporarily fixed as the car drove fine for about 2 months then this happened.

i brought the piston home today so that my dad could take a look at it and have a laugh. here are the pics so u could laugh along with him…or maybe cry

Ouch!

Well don’t let anyone say you do anything half ass.

I’ll look in to those kits for you tomorrow.

Good seeing you today and I heard from NeveR that you guys had fun after I left. Glad to hear it. I just got my car back tonight and have to do the break in period all over again. Feels good so far though. The ACT Clutch Disc really grabs that’s for sure.

Anyway, take care and talk to you soon.

Well my pistons are finally here!!

I haven’t a gone to pick them up yet because i’m too lazy, but i’m going tonight!

YAY! now lets see how long till it’s back on the road
