Pittspeed Fitness & Nutrition thread update:

honestly, it all starts with perfect form. once you have that, the weight will follow. also, i follow a very strict supplement regiman. plus i have a good diet and eat like a horse.

yeah, i did it consistently for 4 months then sorta wheened off of it…need to get back on it, pretty good work out

I’m trying to talk myself into losing weight and getting into shape. I think I’ve been in a bit of denial about just how big I’ve gotten over the past few years and especially lately. I’ll probably come to regret saying this but oh well. I’m almost 5’5 and 220 lbs. Obviously, this is completely out of control, especially for a 20 year old girl. My health hasn’t been very good lately but it’s only getting worse from my lifestyle. I’ve been thinking about going back to boxing. I had great workouts and a lot of fun doing that before. Mac fitness has a school there that looks pretty good. I know 06se-r is training there now, so any opinions on their boxing classes would be great.

Just curious…how much can you rep standing SP…no smith machine.

Boxing is great to help you get in shape. To lose body fat I maybe taylor a boxing routine where you would go all out for 30 seconds then take it easy for 30 seconds and repeat. I would stay away from picking a cardio routine where you maintain a asteady speed for a long period of time…this will help you lose weight but you will lose muscle at the same time. Sure it is good for your heart but there are better ways to lose fat that are good for your heart as well. Training aside it, if you really want to drop some pounds you have to get serious about how you are eating. No excuses…just stay consistent eating healthy wholesome foods…no processed garbage. Try eat clean while reducing your calories and eating 5 times/day and for the first few months you will drop a lot of weight quick. That is if you are staying true and not cheating at all. For a week try to keep track of what you are eating and track the calories/protein/sat fat/un sat fat/carbs to get an idea of what you are eating. I would say to lose weight somewhat quick and healthy a calorie range of 1,600-1,900 would be a good goal to set. I would say a good dinner would consist of a lean meat or fish, a lot of veggies, and a small portion of some kind of a complex carbs. Eat clean, try to start tome kind of HIIT (high intensity interval training)…and try to lift weights a few times per week and I will say a realistic rate to lose weight will be 10-15 lbs per month…keeping in mind the thinner you get the harder it is going to be to drop weight.

Well good for you, I don’t think you will regret saying it. Hey, admitting that you need to do something about your lifestyle is the first step. The next step is to get out there and just work as hard as you can!!! I’m proud that you are able to admit that you need to work on your health (so many ppl in this country can’t even admit THAT)–I like to refer to it as health and not as “weight” because your weight is relative to your body type and lots of other factors. I mean, not everyone can be a 5’10 100 pound size 0 waif, that is just not healthy–and NOT realistic for 99.9% of the women in the US. Good luck w/ your training!

well best of luck to you…

Thanks everyone. My work schedule makes things a bit harder. For instance, it would be tough for me to eat 5 small meals a day because I work a lot of 12 hour night shifts. So, I sleep, go to work, come home, sleep, go back to work. I was looking at weight watchers as a possibility. I don’t do well with counting all the calories, fat, sodium, etc. The points system seems easier to work with and keep track of. I need something that doesn’t take a lot of my time(ie counting all the nutrition facts or spending a long time preparing meals), will still allow some indulgences (in moderation) and obviously has to be something I can stick to for the long term. I think it would be best if Dom we’re to jump on the bandwagon with me. It would be hard for me to get in shape if he’s still doing the same old thing. It’s much easier to stick with a plan if there isn’t temptation at home.

its always better to eat smaller meals more than eating larger meals less… reason being is that your stomach will digest the smaller meals faster…

I know that’s it’s better but it’s not likely to happen. Generally, I eat lunch at work around 2am, then eat breakfast when I get home around 7am. Sometimes I eat dinner before going to work, but more often than not I am too tired to wake up early to make dinner before work. So if I have a hard time getting in 3 meals, I really doubt I can do 5. I might be able to do smaller, healthier meals and little snacks in between.

then you don’t want to get in shape enough yet.

I have people tell me that they have no time for the gym. I have a full time job, 3 kids, etc… and simply make time to go. Enough with the excuses. Get a plan that works, and make that a priority.

I carry snacks and water with me at all times to get my # of meals in, it’s not always easy but I make it work.

If you’re not willing to go above and beyond what you are doing now and change some things up, everything will stay the same.

good luck, it’s not easy to get started being healthy again.

eh, if you doubt yourself you obviously dont have the will power to lose weight!

i can train you really cheap…

never do them standing…i don’t believe in standing military presses…they work, but you can not use as much weight as seated, and the more weight=stronger/bigger muscles…

I see that point. I like seated presses too…I do them as well. I like standing SP b/c they help strengthen a lot of other muscles at the same time, and I am not that much weaker on standing than seated. That is one of the reasons why I stay away from the Smith machine (and other machines)…that and the fact that it keeps you in a fixed range of motion that at times (more often than not) will put you in a unnatural range of motion…which in the long run can be hard on your joints and cause injuries.

What would you consider a small meal? Do protein bars count?

yes…fyi…$100 for 4 sessions+diet plan…
