Pittspeed Fitness & Nutrition thread update:

too much go to life force…

For me it would be…but that place is going to be huge and have a ton of stuff…huge pooll, raquet ball, b-ball, kids center, ect. For me I like basic free weights and some machines, so lifeforce is good enough for me. But for what you get for the $$$ 35 bucks/mo aint bad for la fitness. Just going to have to deal with it being crowded.

if your going to say that then sure sounds nice… I meen as long as its a decent gym then its worth paying for… with most people the same thing happens all the time beginign of the year they pay all this money for a gym membership go one month and then decide its too much effort.

I myself I am too skinny. I lost entirely too much weight I am trying to focus more and more on weight lifting, not more weight less reps but More reps less weight I am trying to lean out.

I used to just do cardio everyday… I would try to run a avg of 25miles per week doing this one year I got down to what I weight now at 170lbs which is just too low of a weight for my body frame. and this is at 1500-1700 calories per day. I am going to try to split that in half with cardio/weights. And see where it gets me here. Also eating more will help me create more muscle mass here as I want to burn some more fat off my body as well as turn whatever I am eating into muscle.

THe YMCA seems to have a decent program for 26/month. GOing to go check it out and see what I like.

robinon ymca?

the ymca in robinson sucks, i used to go there, it was so outdated, it was terrible.

but, for someone looking to just do cardio for 28 bux a month its a good deal… other than that theres alot of random activies to do there… tennis, dek hockey, baseball…

Think about it this way: For cardio I bet you run at a somewhat slow pace and pound out a few miles at a time. This is a decent way to lose weight, but you will end up burning away muscle too. It is somewhat counterproductive. What you want to do is run sprints…full out sprints for about 20 seconds and them walk/jog till you catch your breath. Repeat this 10 times. This will focus on burning fat only and help you keep and build more muscle. This is a little extreem but it will help get the point across. Look at a marathon runner’s build …not too impressive…lean but not too impressive…then look at a sprinter’s body typically lean and a lot of muscle.

As for the light weight gets you toned…not really. Sure different rep ranges are better for hyopothy…but high reps with light weights doesnt mean it will give you a toned look. Diet and losing fat will. You want to build as much muscle as possible…and there are many ways do do it…including different rep ranges.

Yah I see what your saying about rep ranges but almost everytime I go for alot of weights I always end up injuring myself playing hockey (im a goalie) just pulling muscles and what not because they feel too tight.

do alot of stretching. or else realize you wont make the save and stop trying so hard to do so.

So I started in the gym…no real routine yet, just doing things to start on the areas that need it the most (legs and belly)

So granted its only my 3rd day…but Im kinda pissed I can only do crunches at 120 lbs…(gradual start at 80 @20 reps, 95 @ 20 and 120 @ 10 and 10…)

with the back I got up to 150…still kinda weak.

Grr…how often does it take to start getting better results?

Im not looking for any quick fixes or think its gonna happen over night…I just had higher expectations I guess.

The areas you looking to build muscle correct…if you want to lose fat in those areas then working them out will not help. Spot rediction is a myth, losing fat is done buy consuming less (or eating cleaner) calories and burning more. Think of it as peeling layers of an onion away, cant pick one spot and reduce it.

If you want to lose weight int hose areas the best way to do it and alot of woman I see are on the elliptical. Its easy and you can spend alot of time on that machine easily and it doesnt take alot out of you…

What’s your take on losing weight using the binge/purge method?

Honestly, I think running a few miles at a moderate pace is nearly useless for the average person to lose weight. They end up trotting so slow I could pass them walking, and 15 minutes after the “workout” they feel perfectly fine. If you bust your ass, it should be hours before you feel normal again. There is a direct correlation between the calories you’re burning and the amount of time you feel disoriented/tired/sore/winded. The harder you go, the longer that lasts. If you want to go walk around the mall for a few hours, check out the scenery and you’ll know soon enough that method won’t cut it.

Obviously conditioned athletes can go really hard and recover much faster. We’re talking about average chubsters dropping pounds, which is a bit different. Even with conditioned athletes though, put them through a rigorous workout to which their bodies are not accustomed, and they’ll be feeling it.

That sprint workout is a good idea. A lot of people need to watch for injuries though, particularly if it’s the first thing you try after a long break from working out.

?

I need to loose fat in my thighs. My stomach has no fat in it…just needs toned. I work all those muscles when I dance so they are already fit…just need work.

But I understand what you are saying. I do eat well. Low fat, no fast food, no caff., not a lot of bad sugars, lots of protiens…Im good on my diet.

I do cardio. The bike and the step thing. it works both sides on my legs. Its the rear I need most. I try to do 45 min on both with brakes and stretches in between. Ill do the bike…to get my blood pressure up…use it as a warm up. I do about 30-45 min at level 9-11.

and the step machine Ive only used once and it helped big time! Especially since I danced for 5 hours after my 3 hour workout.

I do abs in between. Theres no fat in my stomach. I use them a lot dancing, so its already fit…Im looking for more tone. and cut.

And Im not looking for easy…Im looking for results and sweating during them. If im not sweating…im not working hard enough. I dont want to pay for a gym membership to use an elliptical mach. I could just buy one and sit in front of my tv at home. lol

Girls who want a great behind should do lunges. A flat, flabby butt with no muscle tone is awful.

agreed. Im not flat nor flabby. lol but def needs work.

ill get there, just takes time unfortunatly
