Planning to buy a brand new cross-over SUV...

No, the limited rav 4 starts at around $31K…v6 awd. and it doesn’t even come with leather.

The SEL tiguan starts at $31K I-4 turbo awd and comes with leather.

holy shit!

Oh yeah the CX-7 has the auto/manual tranny thing too. It sucks. Shifts tooo slow. I just leave it in auto all the time.

the vw looks the best and probably the most luxo imo, but reliablity honda or toyota

To set the record straight, the V6 Rav4 is the fastest Toyota made. :snky:

There is NO reason to go with a V6 over a 4 cylinder, unless you are planning on towing something > 2,000 pounds.

You are going to spend an additional $2000+ for the V6 option, and its going to be worth not a dime more in 2 years, 5 years or 10 years for the same reason that a 2wd is worth considerably less. There is no market for V6 Rav4’s. The new 2.7L 4 Cylinder that is coming in the 09 Rav’s has a bit more power and better gas mileage than the 2.4L numbers.

All Rav’s have an electronically engaged rear lock up until 25 mph, then it automatically disengages.

Keep in mind, safety features…

The Rav4 comes with STANDARD:

4 wheel disc brakes
ABS
EBD - Electronic Brake-Force Distribution
Vehicle Stability Control
Traction Control
Brake Assist
Dual Front, Dual Stage front seat passenger airbags (passenger seat is weight sensitive)
Active Headrests
side curtain airbags
front driver and passenger seat mounted side airbags
breakaway engine mounts
a ton of crumple zones
daytime running lights

And it looks 100x’s better in 2009:

Rav Sport. :roflpicard:

Forester XT

I am driving my mom’s 03 forester XS auto which is top to the line for that year, I get about 25-30mpg. Her Subaru has 110,000 and the only thing she/we have done to it is general maintance (timing belt, brakes, etc). I was looking for another subaru (forster, legacy, WRX) mainly the forester but then brent’s jeep popped up for sale.

id hit up the VW. no suprize there

interesting. interesting. interesting.

I saw Subaru Forester ad today (TV). Looks pretty interesting. However, I am not really loving the hatchback-look though (back side). I like CR-V/Rav4/Rouge’s rear curve better.

XT

My brother was looking for a crossover last summer he ended up with the CR-v. He is very happy with it and I was impressed with it as well. You can’t beat Honda reliability. I would stay away from anything turbo. VW quality is down the toilet so unless you were doing a short lease I would stay away from them. Subaru puts out a good product but repairs tend to be more expensive than other cars.
How long are you planning on driving it? Do you get a new car every few years or do you drive them into the ground?
As far as 2wd vs 4wd, my wife’s vue is 2wd. It does not handle well with all seasons on it in the snow. I put snow tires on it and I would say it would keep up with a 4wd with all seasons in the snow. Remember these are all still FWD without the AWD.

Don’t get a 2wd SUV. You might as well just buy a car. It would have the same snow capability but better handling and probably better resale.

The Honda/Toyota/Hyundai/Subaru should all be pretty reliable. I’d include the Nissan if it weren’t for the QR25 powerplant.

I’d drive all 4, see what you like and what the finances and offers look like, and then decide.

The Forester is more of a lifted wagon than an SUV. You might like it better because it’ll be a bit less top heavy, or you might not like it because it’s not as roomy as the others.

^thanks, guys for your inputs!

I am glad that I discussed this with you guys. I was pretty all set on getting a 2WD, but now it seems that 4WD is a better buy.

I disagree. First of all I don’t think any of the cars you listed have 4wd; they have awd. Unless you are planning on off roading, which none of these vehicles are good for, snow tires on a fwd are just fine. Awd also has more parts to break.
I have snows on my srt and wife’s vue and have never even remotely come close to getting stuck. I even pass 4wd trucks in the snow with my srt.

And I could get a good look at a steak by sticking my head up a cows ass, but I’d rather have 4wd/awd in the snow with all other things equal.

Wait, what?

Yeah 2WD is fine, but 2 more WD is even better.

wait… What?

AWD == 4WD ?

AWD != 4WD ?

Clarify, please.

How about resale value?
