I’ve decided to really try and learn how to snowboard this season. Since I suck at it and because I have back problems, I decided to get some protection for my spine and such. Last year, I had a bruised tail bone for 2 months and slid a disk or two out of place thanks to one of my many awesome falls (pretty epic to watch). With my degenerative disc disease, I can’t be too careful.

So I got this stuff:

Jeez, you could probably case a 50ft jump and be completely fine with all that gear. lol

Have you considered taking lessons? They help a lot with developing technique, especially if you’ve never snowboarded before.

fuck lessons.

I borrowed my sister inlaws board and boots, packed it into the goldola at Gore. put the shit on and pointed it down that trail to the right. Found the faster you went the easier it was to control. Was fun a shit! feels so much different carving turns than skiis. Toe side turns are a real bitch when you go to exit the turn and catch the heal edge prior to changing your upper body direction! lol lost my goggles a few times and saw stars quick.

I did find out that when you hit a jump for the first time, you really should program your mind that your no longer on skiis, becasue landing with both your toes facing down hill on the landing isnt a good thing to do with a snowboard attached to your feet!

I’m hoping it helps lol. I fall a lot, but it’s mostly due to MAJOR shin splints which make me give up my stance and just topple over from the pain. I’ve been doing stretches to help that though, so hopefully this season is better.

No lessons. You can still fall even after lessons and I feel on my tail bone ONE time last year and it was bruised for months. Would get the gear regardless.

Haha. I’ve done that too where I’ve launched myself forward in major fashion. At one point at Song Mountain in Syracuse I flew like 25ft and was probably 5ft in the air. The workers who watch out for folks came runnin over like, “WTF!? WHAT are you doing?”

That shit hurt SO BAD. I thought I broke my back. I landed so hard on it that I heard the pop in my head lol.

I’m epicly turrible (as Charles Barkley would say) at this thing called snowboarding. I can get going quick by staying low, but eventually I wipe out. Obviously the key is to carve and not just zoom down the mountain full tilt, but that’s about all I’m good at the moment.

Ilya, let’s go to Whiteface this weekend

bit the bullet and bought the tuner!!!

a big plus for this is that when i sell the car i can load the factory tune back in the car and keep the tuner for my next 5spd tdi. WIN

hows dat eletrik heat petrad?

beast, temp is about 1/2 up and instant heat. car starts like its summer time!!!

Can’t. Saturday I’m busy all day (construction at home on the new addition - finally doing the inside - getting close) and then saturday night I have a UAlbany basketball game (I’m a season ticket holder). Sunday is church, family, etc.

I’m goin to Jim. on the 23rd I think we a decent sized group of people.

Plus, I don’t think I’d get my gear this week…so if I didn’t and wasn’t busy, I definitely wouldn’t go. I’m not going until I get it lol. One fall and I could be done for.

After riding in my big boy, you had to didn’t you haha

ahh yes, lets race tho, id honestly like to see the difference, if any lol

I’ve cased a 50+ foot gap with minimal gear and I was completely fine… Ilya would probably burn a hole through the earth to china with that gear on

Good luck billyah

It’s all in how you fall. :haha

Unlike me, you know how to board. I’m below novice, if there even is such a level. :rofl

And also, you don’t have the back of a 65yr old like me. I’m sure that helps you bounce back up after a wipe out and ‘no harm no foul’.

:rofl

Yep. Mine are pretty epic. I once slid like 20 yards on my ass because I just couldn’t be bother picking myself up after falling down. I was quite frustrated so I just let the hill take me wherever. Smooth/slipper WalMart snow pants FTW. :lol

I was kidding… that gear is pretty cool. You’ll be fine with all of that… maybe a bit hot though haha
