Yeah I gotta see the color to try and find a match.
If it has to be dead on, I would just epoxy prime the VC and paint it, then just paint the brackets with base/clear. perfect match. Paint can take the temps on the vc fine.

I thought about that. So with the aluminum VC, I would use epoxy primer, not self-etching? Then use the basecoat/clearcoat setup and be done?
either will work on bare metal. Epoxy is more resistant and durable than se. Just make sure whatever primer you shoot you follow the directions. Most need to be sanded or scuffed then base can stick. Or some dont allow base over then and need a sealer then base. Depends on the product. there are lots of ways to paint it.
so true. if you take time to do it right once you will spend less time and energy. if you try to get it done fast and make as much $$$ in a short time chances are you will have to re do alot of things. costing more and wasting more in long run.
this is what i am trying to explain to my contractor who rushed through shit and messed up alot of things.
no lie, every week or two I could share an example of someone cheaping out and it biting them in the ass, or the first shop/person that shortcut or cobjobbed work that failed and now came back to me to fix the right way.
When you do wheels is it possible to repair light rash as well? Also how much extra would it be if the tires were still on? Thanks.
edit n/m i missed the part about the tires, so just the question about the rash.
yes it would be $30 extra to dismount the tires.
Yes I can file and sand out some minor curbrash, ave is about $15-25 a wheel. Need to see them to tell for sure.
my dad wants your number , he wants his rims from 77 ta powdercoated two tone , so he want to call and talk to someone .
replied to you on facebook my friend.
Wow kk is back… That didn’t take long lol
im trying to figure out the best way to achieve a flat black look on my Harley’s gas tank, oil tank and fenders but want something fuel safe and something that holds up. would powerdcoating be the way to go for that or would it be possible to paint and achieve this? thanks…btw its a 74 ironhead sportster xlh
same color/coating just a different fender to show the close up results.
that’s all powder right there. Powder coating is a poly plastic coating, so its a lot more resistant to fuel than a paint will ever be. you still need to be careful naturally, but its better than paint that’s for sure.
Price is about the same as paint because of the prep time, instead of scuff and paint its a strip to 100% metal, light sand blast to profile and then coat. looking at around $350-400 to coat a pair of fenders, tank and oil tank. Oil tank and fuel tank need to be empty and evac’d so i don’t make a bomb in my oven. i can explain that process to you later.
the only downside to powder vs paint on bike tins… body work. if there are any dents or dings I cant powdercoat over bondo. There is a product called all metal high temp that “can” withstand the temps (400f) to powdercoat but it sands like concrete and is a bitch to block out body work wise, aka cost goes up from that $350-400 mark if that’s needed and I have yet to use the product under powder work personally so I cant guarantee results right off the bat but I would practice on a spare part prior to your work but I need to make you aware of that first off.
thank you for your reply, that powder looks great on that Harley…exactly what im going for…I am waiting until after the holidays when I can spare some coin and then ill be contacting you…I do not know for sure if there has ever been any bondo work or anything like that…i don’t believe so but im not positive. Ill have to try and figure that out
sounds good. once they are blasted you will know if any body work was ever done on them. If there was I can shoot them with hot rod black paint as another option.
