I just ordered some Ceramichrome yesterday AM to try out on a honda DC header I have here collecting dust. Should be here thrusday so I want to coat it asap and see if it needs to be polished and if so how much of a pain in the ass that will be. So I can dial in my prices on high temp coating stuff.
I can get a silver, flat black and a gloss black in high-temp powder. “Prolonged temps at 1200deg” its rated at. I want to coat the downpipe on my jetta with it so see what the heck it will do. If someone has a beater with a easy to swap header or manifold, like a honda or something front exhaust, that wants a free coating to test it out with me I am up for it. Bet your ass you will be signing a disclosure though! :hug I will buy materials and blast/coat it myself free of charge. I just ask that you run it for a while and report back & take before and after pics for me. PM me if your interested.
Ceramic’s are rated @ 1600F. But are 3 times as expensive materials wise, and twice the work (un-polished) so labor goes up too. Those prices are TBD once I get to work with it and see how it goes.
Same for a black or non-polished ceramic coating. It wont be free, but if someone wants a cheap ceramic job, you buy materials ($52 shipped i just paid) and I will do the labor for $50 UNPOLISHED. If you sign a disclosure saying you are testing it and I am not responsible for crappy results, or a fire or something crazy. :rofl
See above homie! Manifold you mean intake I assume. What color? PM me and we can work it out. :number1
Yeah the kandy colors look awesome. Who did them for you if you dont mind me asking. Did they powder the lettering or bury a decal under the clear? Or no lettering at all? Thanks in advance.
ohh yeah thats right. Does it have a header already or a stock manifold? either way I think the one i have might bolt up, of not we can try the one you have on there already.
I got them done at powdertech. I was told they were the only powdercoating guys around since I just moved back here in July. They came out good but I had to wait 3 weeks… Way to long IMO
I am bringing my A game with it comes with the powder work, especially becasue they are 3/4 a mile away from my shop! hahah
In their defense, they make 90% of their money coating GIANT stuff. As in $1400 a pop for a dump truck bed, or $800 a dumpster… 10 times a day. Car chassis, and other big items. its costs more for them to bring the oven up to temp to cure a set of wheels than the what I charge to coat them! Hence the long turnarounds, and unsteady prices. Believe me, I did my research on my competitor, and I know many people who went/tried to go to them for work.
They are industrial coaters, we are custom coaters. I wont feel bad taking their petty PC work, and they shouldn’t hate on me becasue I cant fit a dumpster in my oven!
Yea they do good work tho honestly but they told me $160 when I brought the calipers to them then when I picked them up they said $200 even. And they only take cash which allows them to change prices etc. And from my personal experience I felt like I was an “inconvenience” to them hence why I won’t be going back. I know calipers, headers, or other auto parts are not what they make there money on but still a customer is a customer. And I was kinda like WTF about it taking 3 weeks but whatever I guess
yeah exactly. Its not like they NEED the work like that… so in my book there is no harm in correctly telling a customer “I am sorry but we cant help you with your inquiry.” There is something to be said about honestly in my opinion.
HA, they pulled the same shit on me when i sent them my wheels to get coated. they said about 250$ since i had them already stripped and sand blasted. when i went to pick them up, two weeks later, they wanted like 350. after some haggling, 275 was the final price. never going back there.
For sure Like I said they do good work but trying to jack the price up is bullshit for a set of calipers or rims… or anything really. Anyone that decides to go there I would say get a quote in writing which I failed to do :banghead
thanks guys. thats why I want to just put a price sheet up. I have nothing to hide, always have been that way. For a place that big, to jack a price up 40% on a the spot for a customer is bullshit. Especially when that’s only is a $100 difference for a company that makes thousands in work a day there.
Enough with the bashing, I dont need it… ill just let me results speak for itself, customer got all the pipes and intake on his WRX:
my wheels have been at powdertech for over 6 months now, they told me itd take them 2 weeks lolol… Congrats to them, they inherited a pair of 18" wheels, cuz im not paying.
