Prick cop of the week award goes to...

This one, from New Jersey.

Wow! If that was my kid, I wouldn’t even care if the car rolled over a bunch of people as long as my son was OK…

The other was for failing to use his emergency brake.

  1. There is no such thing as an emergency brake.
  2. Can they really write a ticket for not using a parking brake?

Falls into improper parking, like “failure to control speed” if you hit someone. I read through it when I was getting an improperly mounted plate ticket on my bike for having it vert. vs. horizontal on the back (not douche bag tucked like sportbikes).

Well, wouldn’t it be for not putting the truck in park then? He just left it in gear and ran after his kid.

Can the police walk down a hilly street and ticket vehicles for not using parking brakes?

If they roll, or move, yes.

to be honest I have to side with the cop on this one. I feel like we might not have all the details here and think about what his ignorance could have cost him. His 6 week old son could have been in the car when he jumped out and failed to put his truck into park. That could have killed his son. what if someone had been walking behind his truck and got struck by it as it rolled away? how about someone walking down the hill the truck went down or someone in the water where the truck landed… how about it rolling into traffic and causing a major crash? The more I think about it FUCK this guy. control your kids and don’t be a fucking idiot with your car.

Spoken like someone who doesn’t have kids.

+1

I can see if someone got hurt by the runaway truck, but they didn’t. Everything worked out just fine other than some damage to a truck that can be repaired. No reason for the cop to be a dick, especially the comment about “then I’d charge you with child endangerment and take you to jail”. Someone’s got a seriously tiny penis and is using a badge to make up for it.

Stories like this are just covered to be sensational…

The Jeep started? Damn.

I’ll side with the cop for one reason. I too would have ran for the kid. Problem is, its still breaking the law what he did and is still means for being ticketed. Unfortunately is the job of the officer to write that ticket whether or not he decides too. Jumping out of the truck and leaving it to which it can roll away is still dangerous. Had anyone else been close by, the truck could have hurt them, causing a lawsuit.

Could the cop let it slide, yes. Asshole cop, maybe for doing that. But what if hes a new cop, has his ranking officers above him pressing him to get his quota of tickets up. What if it wasnt his call but anyone above him. Just because he got out of the car to chase a kid doesnt mean it puts him above the law. Unfortunately.

Insurance scam

new cop, old cop, still a dick move.

If someone was driving a dying friend to the hospital, wouldn’t they speed? Blow a few stop signs? I would hope so.

Yes, they would… but doesnt mean they will not receive tickets. Cops defense could be, “why didnt you call an ambulance” Unfortunately either way, its breaking the law. Can and would the guy fight the ticket? I hope so, I would.

Cops can’t be trusted with judgement calls, so they are forced to just follow the letter of the law. I don’t agree at all with this guy getting a ticket, I think the situation didn’t call for it and the guy was punished enough when his Jeep got totalled.

He was sort of in a position where he had to issue something given the gravity of the situation. I would have had a brief conversation with him off the record, saying I wouldn’t be attending court that day, wink wink, nudge nudge. One ticket would be dismissed when he produced proof of insurance, no brainer.

Come on now cops dont have ticket quotas lmfao!! BTW is it still 2 an our for state troopers?

Im on the fence with this one. Ya the guy ultimately let a 2 ton wrecking ball loose, and yes someone could have got hurt. But all things considered he did the right thing (conscious of the consequences or not) and chose the lesser of two evils.

Was the cop a dick? Sure. Rookie cop or not, dont be a fucking tool. Yes cops put up with a lot of bullshit, but so does the public from cops. I think its shit like this that makes the good cops loose respect in the public’s eyes.

Hold on while i celeb status this thread:

Seriously though, if i had kids and this happened to me the first thing on my mind would be going after the child and making sure he/she is safe, not wondering if i used the parking brake or not… cops a dick, and i’m amazed at that guys restraint i probably would have hit him after his jail comment.

parking brake? he left the bitch in drive and got out. it is one of those subconscious things that comes from driving for 20+ years. you don’t get out of a vehicle with it running in drive. Think automatic transmission
