I didn’t get the exhaust from Brendan with the car
Pretty big update
(I just add to the OP)…
Haha, weld the S14 frame to the bottom of it, and have an S14 masquerading as a 240Z
Lol - if i use any subframe it will be my r34 gtr, and will be like 4" wider track than a stock 240z
(also mods if you could please remove the poll off the thread, as it is no longer needed and i don’t know how to thanks)
wanna sell this one to me to?
240z rotisserie??? DO IT!
Haha yep i’m doing a 240Z pig roast
and no John, sorry - you are definitely not getting this one lol this one is a keeper I’m heading to the shop in a few minutes to sort out my new 240Z parts inventory and set up the rotisserie Update soon
P.S. anyone know what rims are on that black S30 in my OP?
Good choice man, I’ve always wanted a 70’s Z car… I’ll have one one day. Cant wait to see this get going!
Cant tell if the wheels are real or replicas but the style is Watanabe RS
Update:
Some sad news but alot of the parts I had intentions of using aren’t quite feasible lol.
R34 GTR Subframe the outside of where the rotor sits is a half inch past the outside of the flare, therefore even if I were to use a high high offset wheel (weaksauce), I would still stick out min. 4 inches on each side. But I’m going to use it anyway
S14/S15 dash - as with the subframe, a good 4 inches on each side too wide.
Good news is that i may have found a ZEDD Findings floor kit in nearby area which would be awesome I am lifting the floors 1 3/4" to 2", as they sit below the rockers, and would scrape like nobody’s business.
I am also researching some form of skid plate to protect a Xcessive Manufacturing/Greddy sump oilpan from gnarly speedbumps.
Updated the thread for the first time in like a year lol. S’all in the OP.
Not entirely sure how wide the r34 subframe is, but def too wide from the sounds of it… why not use a s13/14? s13 is 2.5" wider and s14 is 5" wider over all from stock 240z. I currently have a s14 subframe welded into my s30 with cusco upper arms and the tires are about a finger width away from the factory lip at the top. That’s with running a 205/50/15 rim with 0 offset. As for the front s13 or s14 spindles and control arms will work along with skyline 4 pot calipers. Any other offset of wheel or if that little bit of tire is too much just get a zg flare kit. factory is 3" or u can go with the upgraded 4.5". As for the dash and console the only workable swap I have seen is the s13 and you have to mill of the ends to shut the doors, and console fits perfect for shifter. Hopefully this helps with ur build
first of all… Im really impressed by all you guys who are doing the ground up projects and doing a true custom project cars. hats off to you sir.
second…how long did it take to model the internals on solid edge? you must have alot of patience. I use UGS NX my self and I hear that solid edge is a widely used program in the industry opposed to NX.
anyways keep the good work, I want to see this thing built and running. good luck
I’m not sure where you are getting your info from but a S14 subframe is only +20mm track over an S13, and exactly the same size as the R34. I had a S14 subframe bolted to my S13 with offset bushings. The only difference between S14 and R34 is the two bolt diff mount (so I can use the stock Q45 diff cover) as well as HICAS :(. Another reason to not use S13/S14 is that I already have an R34 subframe, so why by another that’s probably rustier, and have to buy another diff cover to utilize my Q45.
As for the flares I already have the “super wide” ZG flares with the 4.5" flare so width ways I am not worried about fitting, even with 0 offset wheels. Do you have any pics of how you welded the subframe up though? I’m designing my mount based off a guy I just found who ironically also mounted a R34 subframe build name “Gaijin”.
You can make any dash work with enough customizing - I have seen S13, S14, S15, R32, R33, R34, Z32, Z33, S2000, Corvette. The E36 M3 dash I have needs <1/4 off each side and will work. Custom bracketry as well as custom defrost setup from Jegs and I’m all set
Thx for the enthusiasm K-Man - I’m pumped for it too but it’s all dependent on money for parts… School is killing my wallet lol. Yep it was a PITA measuring out everything but it’ll be handy someday when I can design a part like adjustable arms for the Z on Solidworks, test stresses and then go make it from a ortho drawing. I’ve never used UGS but industry does use Solidworks, even though I prefer Autodesk Inventor Modelling doesn’t take too long I have a good set of mitutoyo tools to measure everything and I now have access to a CMM at my coop and will get super accurate measurements even faster soon.
The only pics i have atm, front is basically the same idea…used a couple builds for mock up Alex villebrille’s sr240z being one, others were just randoms I had found… Only trying to offer some suggestions cuz u said “alot of the parts I had intentions of using aren’t feasible”…R34 sub being one…
Sorry man, I forgot about that not feasible post. And I’m grateful for any suggestions from anyone - sorry if I came off a bit douchy. Where are you located? I’d love to come check it out someday. Is that how far the wheels stick out with 0 offset 205/15’s?? Siiickk
Hey no worries lol, located in K-W…and ya tha’ts where the wheels sit…origanally planned to go 15x10’s but would have to do a mad flare like the 4.5" or weaksauce offset
HUGE props on the rhd conversion ka s30, Im ka-t’ing my 510 right now and your build puts my budget ghetto work to shame. Your swap looks meticulously clean thus far- with this kind of ingenuity, cash and time into the build- it will be quite the show car when its done.
On another note- I have to say a 350z interior looks awesome in a 240z… you might consider if you can find a write-off 350z or 370z
And oh- more build pics please (when you get the chance)
KW eh - perfect - give me a shout someday if you need a hand. And I love ZG flares so I don’t mind rocking a 4.5" flare, I just have to figure out what offset wheel I can rock once I’m all mounted up.
Do you have a build thread? Even the most ghetto budget modding work deserves to be shared, most people don’t even attempt to mod. Ratsun is a solid place for 510 builds, especially great for cheap sick mods.
Thanks for the praise and i will take it to a few shows but it won’t be a trailer queen - I couldn fathom building a car and not utilizing every last ounce of capability in it.
For some reason I’m not a fan of the 350Z dash but if I ever see a 370Z dash that I can afford ( I found one but he asked for $1400 LOL) I will definitely be doing that.
As for updating pics I’ve been working 56-76 hour weeks so datsuns been getting neglected I am also going to make a thread on wordpress or the like so it’s much easier to update my threads on every forum I’m on.
Yeah Im on the Ratsun forums- HybridZ and 510realm are great too. I think Ill start a build thread in the next couple weeks when I get some time. You are spot on about utilizing a cars potential. IMO great showcars are not trailer queens, great showcars are tasteful clean street and track cars.
Small update is better than none i suppose… Workin 65 hr weeks, no time for the Z
I figured this wouldve gone alot quicker but this little bit took over an hour with a knotted wire brush on an angle grinder.
After grinding:
After primer;
Just need a nice way to lose those line clip things along the rail.
Cleaned up and painted the Z32 5 lug and BNR34 knuckles.
Also kept busy lifting my daily - this is beside a stocker. 3" IRO lift which lifted it 4.375" all around from my OEM saggy tits for springs.
