Question about NY emissions and inspection on a California car

So I am putting my car back to stock with stock computer for the emissions inspection. My question is about the egr tube. Right now there is a egr block off plate. If I don’t replace the tube I will get a cell. I was wondering because my specific year, it was only in california that they had the EGR tubes. Would my car still pass without the EGR tube. The less I have to do to the car to convert it to pass the better. I have the tube, but there is a coolant re rout kit that is in the way of connecting the tube. Not sure if I even have the parts to put the coolant routing back to stock, and would rather not fuck with it if I don’t have to.

Her is a pic and description below I got from miata.net
http://forum.miata.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=66684&d=1215533398

Top = 2001-2004 OEM Tubular header with egr tube
Bottom left = 1999/2000 OEM Fed emissions exhaust manifold
Bottom right = 1999/2000 OEM CA emissions exhaust manifold

Car in question is a 2000

I did look a the link in the emissions thread but it doesn’t say anything about inspecting cars here with ca emissions so thats why I started this thread.

if you have a CEL because of emissions-related equipment then no, it will not pass inspection.

Emissions have to be the biggest pain in the ass crap ever.

in the 70’s, sure.

These days? EGR, Secondary air, EVAP, etc are not only necessary to not completely kill the planet, it’s also pretty easy to diagnose using the proper equipment.

Agreed, I just hate chasing gremlins when it comes to older rusty cars, never fun.

you can pass with ONE code. if all you get is an evap code at your inspection, you can still pass.

That is definitely good info, thanks!

the problem is you average do it yourselfer does not have the proper equipment and it can be very costly to repair a $2500 buick to get it to pass inspection when it drives fine otherwise.

That’s not quite true. If the engine light is on, the car will not pass, period.

The car will pass if the light is off and all readiness monitors are in their ready state (other than 2 for 2000 and earlier cars, or 1 for 2001 and later cars)

So just turning the light off will not allow the car to pass

ugh, so now I have to figure out how to get all monitors set but that one lol. Threw a quick search I red that the fuel has to be between 1/4 and 3/4 full. Not sure how true that is, but I’m going to keep looking.

wow this guy really knows his stuff
btw NY follows ca standard not federal.

If its a 2000 you can have 2 not set.I think the last ones to run are cat and evap,so you may have a chance.

Ha, didn’t know that… thanks.

sounds good, I can only hope!
