Re IC: Welding *Edited With Pics! On Page 1

yeah would you be abla to send me pics that are bigger i’ll edit the ones you sent me and show what i’m confused about

yea do that ill try and clear it up for you. cause it is a pretty big picture. ill try and get a fuller shot that shows the whole thing.

Yo, dude, are you still doing this frame repair shieet or should I blow my paycheck on a plasma tv or something?

hey sorry i havent replied, my b-day was this past 24 weekend, and today was recovery day, lol, anyways, in your pics it really looks like a lot of surface rust, but i may be wrong, if you can get me bigger pics that would probably help.
and i would do it for free for someone if i had enough interest to do this in the first place, but since no one seems to want they’re frames to be done right i dont have any interest anymore, then again if i had the money i wouldn’t have bought a 240 in the first place, for these reasons, lol

Uhmm… I still want it done. How much does the price go up if it’s only my car?

Hi. I’m definitely interested. I intended to take pictures of the frame rust last night, but I ended up working late. I’m off today though, so I’ll try to get some pictures.

I am definitely interested, and it sounds like, for what I could pay a shop to patch it up cheaply, I could pay you to do a really good job that’ll let me keep driving my car for quite a while.

EDIT: pictures are posted in my topic in the “Technical” forum. What days/times are good for you? Can you patch up the body holes as well?

bump for editing? will i get in touble for doing a bump like this?

It’s not in for sale, so no. But you still haven’t answered my question. Can I bring my car, to get my frame welded?

pmed

SO many better ways to stiffen the frame without throwing in massive ammounts of heat like that.

Roll Cage FTW 8)

go a head and add a roll cage, its dangeruos and heres why.

roll cages are only good when you are in a collision and wearing a helmet. in reallity, welding or bolting in a multi-point cage is one of the most dangeruos things you can add to a street car. even highly engineered and wickedly fabbed roll cages are meant for race cars that only see track time while the drivers are wearing helmets. sure it can dramatically increase the chassis rigidity but this increase also means energy that was supposed to be absorbed by crumple zones, now gets transfered to solid and stiff bars which then become weapons, and unless your wearing that helmet, kiss your bye bye.

thats why stich and seam welding your car is safer and better, you’ve increased the structural integrity of the crumple zones, which is good.

and by the way having a properly engineered roll cage requires way more time and money, it needs to be meticuluosly designed, you can just slap a shit load of bars in there but unless you know how to properly design one, and your welds can take the stress and impact of a collision, i’d put my money on stich or seam welding.

and heat doesnt always weaken metal, it sometimes strengthens it, take for example heat treated metals. , like carbon steel (most commonly used steel).

shall i keep going or has my point been proven?

tack welding (which is what stitch welding is) doesnt add heat at all, well it does but not enough to warp the metal, just enough to penetratre into the metal.
and you said there are better ways to stiffen the “frame”, not the “whole” car. in fact i can only think of one way to stiffen the “frame” and that would be to put braces in between the 2 frame rails.
even to seam weld the car (connecting all the tack welds), if you know how to do it properly, wont add any unneccessary heat.

i appologize, sorry paul and sorry BAS

do you weld for a living? didnt think so.

dont bash my shit unless you know what your talking about, and have the knowledge to back it up[/quote]

He does weld for a living. He’s also been doing it far longer than you have.

He’s not bashing, he was stating an opinion, civilly. You’re the one who is trying to take it to the next level… please don’t.

Also, how can you say that adding a roll cage is unsafe in regards to crumple zones? Roll cages are only installed in the cabin. I don’t see how a roof, door or floor crumpling into you can be more safe than not. Sure, you might hit your head, but I’d take that chance in a serious crash. I think it’s more likely you’d be saved from being squished than hitting your head.

my appologies to BAS and i edited my previous sttement
