I might just go through insurance.
Go through the insurance jeff, I looked at it and there is no way your gonna fix so that shit wont leak. You also gonna have to find a way to get that bumper to attach to the wheel wells. The Ins. will probably total it an write ya a check, then they will probably sell ya the car back for $50.
Fair KBB is 740 bucks private party, and that was assuming 150k miles. Looking at the rust I’d say fair might be a little generous, so I wouldn’t expect a ton from insurance if they total it.
How the hell would he even say $200 in a situation like that? The ticket you’d get for driving with a busted tail light will cost more than that…
I’d tell him $1,500.
You had a working car prior to him hitting you. /story. 1991 Honda or a brand new car, he still hit you and if he wants to pay you off he better try harder than that. Tell him that either way you’re screwed and it’s all his fault. He better pay up out of pocket or the insurance company will be paying for him.
You should be able to replace that car for $500 bucks…so ask for that
102,000 miles on it. There is not that much visible rust other than around rear wheel wells

I also liked my little beater honda. That thing runs like a champ. It looks like I cant even clip the bumper back on the sides now because the clips busted off. The trunk wont ever close right and the tail light wont go in right because the frame around it is bent. The back of the car was intact. F this I think Im gonna just go through insurance.

I was going to say go through insurance and buyback and fix it yourself.
but if the frame is bent, f that.
when some guy fucked up my grand ams front end by pulling infront of me and it got totaled… I bought it back (think it was like 160), stripped everything good about it… Which was more or less everything… rebuilt motor, trans, I always used lifetime warranty replacement shit… so I took all that, took it to the scrap yard after getting every usable bit i could… got about 180 (more than the buyback price), and made off with a shit load of parts.
bought a new grand am, and now i have a stash of spares when shit breaks.
The OPs neck can hurt all he wants, it wont get him any money in NY from the other drivers carrier unless it is broken. The OP’s PIP or No fault insurance covers all medical treatment up to 50k and you cant make a BI claim under the at fault parties carriers unless you have loss of sight, limb, broken bone or death…
Get an estimate for the damages before taking any offers. I agree the car is probably a total. A car like that in excellent shape is only worth about 2k.
I just want to get enough money back to replace my daily driver that never gave me a SINGLE issue. This guy was trying to F me over.
def make a claim under insurance. You will get screwed in the end if you take any offers from the other driver. Also, once you take money for this loss without your insurance companies consent, you can no longer make a claim for your damages. The car will be totaled, but I would also buy it back cheap and repair it.
x100 on buying it back. Its always worth buying it back if you can drive it even a little.
with an old honda like that, sledge hammer it out, duct tape the trunk closed, throw some sheetmetal with rivets over the tail light hole and throw a trailer taillight in there, good as, well good as your going to get for less than 25$ of repairs haha
pocket the rest of the cash into some form of investment or future car endevors
Funny story- my sister’s Altima got hit while parked by the Mr Softee ice cream truck. He offered her $100 and she stupidly accepted. Gave her $50 and said he would come back with the rest. Meanwhile, I found out the scratches he said would buff out were completely through the paint, and the bumper was cracked. Well Mr Softee never showed with the other $50, and intentionally skipped her street on his route. She filed a police report sine she didn’t have his insurance info, they tracked him down, and his insurance paid out. The cops told her if he didn’t come back for his $50 it was hers to keep, and he didn’t- never drove down that street again LOL!
Glad his company paid out. He most likely never mentioned the fact he tried to pay her off. It is written in most insurance policies if you take an offer, the insurance company is off the hook.
I had an EF Civic like that, loved the thing, drove it for 4 years…
damn wasnt expecting the damage to be that bad jeff lol, go thru the insurance unless he gives you 500 or more. that thing looked and ran solid as hell before that happend
Just got the numbers back. It was deemed a total loss… I am getting $1,325.75 in insurance money (not bad for a car I paid $250 for). Thank god i didn’t take that $200 bucks!!! Thanks for the advice guys.
Cha-Ching
Joe I had a 4 door like that too, bought it with my graduation from hs money… Awesome car, that thing never let me down
good to hear you made out good!
