But AUDI is nice man, quattro is amazing… Shit i have 190k+ on my a4 and have owned it for over a year now and racked on about 30k and only $$$ i have put into it was gas! And even with AWD i average 31-32 mph highway!
Not really until you start modding them.
The only weak point is the diff, from wheel hop. But as long as you don’t launch hard/a lot it really is not an issue.
The engine is an LS7 for 04 and 05 which by some accounts was created by the hands of God.
With the prices dropping more reasonably priced mods are coming out and wheel hop/diff solutions continue to evolve.
e90 330 2006 models are going for low 20’s with low mileage still. Not fast but nice ride, lots of options, low mileages out there and not crack head prices like the e46 m3 guys want.
my brother picked up an 06 330 loaded with everything but navi for 24 and low miles.

Hell with mine I’m at about 93K miles now… at least 6 long hard track days… the only maintenance I’ve performed on it was changing the oil… The motors are SUPER solid too… mine with 73K miles on it when i bought it last year had a leackdown of 0% 0% 1% 0% 2% 0%.
I had to change the pads and rotors… but that was from the track days that they had to be changed so fast. pads are really cheap, rotors werent that bad either.
A few gripes I have with the car. I mis shift 3rd when I’m not paying attention and pussy foot it into gear, the car has always been like that. (good thing or bad thing IDK). the car is more difficult to drive (to be 100% smooth) the fuel map only really starts at 2K, so starting out it lags until 2K then a big surge of power.
Another… oil changes are 75 bucks, but last 7500 miles. and take under 3 minutes to change lol (seriously, its the perfect setup for common maintenance)
IDK what you are saying about “dated” though. The only other car I would rather have in the BMW line is an e92 M3.
the e46 m3 is the only e46 i would consider for obvious reasons. Im realy not scared of maintanance costs on these cars since ive owned bmw for a while now. My current 328is has over 120k miles and over 20k miles of hard boosting and still runs great and strong. im not afraid of high mileage bmw’s.
Im just trying to find the most car for the least amount of money like everyone else.

The only draw back from the audi s4 is the lack of nav.

But nav isnt a huge deal, just almost seems standard now in alot of lux sedans.
Plus you can always just buy a nice nav stereo unit and add it in yourself.
Heck they have 1.5 dins with ~6 inch screens and GPS for $250 now.

When I was looking for a sedan the 2000 ish M5 was on my list, but the money, maintenance and dated look killed it for me.
Driving a Volvo S60R killed that for me.
A surprisingly fun car to drive, Charger R/T, and C32 AMG.
Seriously test drive a Charger R/T they are fun even with the auto. Plus it is a pretty large car. Resale will suffer with it though. 
You can get nav in an s4 look at the last ebay attachment from justin, that s4 is equiped with nav
If you wait a while to buy a Charger, they may give you a PT Cruiser with it…
A plus or minus as that may seem…
if I had a charger, every time I went past an airport I would probably try to return it.

BMW Nav is not going to help you get around anywhere… it is honestly the worst navigation system, and most unreliable, that I have ever seen/used
