I’ve also heard that the massive backups and delays is causing a lot of cars to get totaled out right now. I got lucky and my car is still driveable. Same hit on the driver’s side and it wouldn’t be. If it wasn’t and State Farm was looking at paying to have me in a rental for 2-3 months on top of this repair that’s a significant cost that could push them to just write the car off.
Am I missing something from your one picture, why are they repairing the rear wheel? There are a lot of hour line items on there for removing and installing (unless R&I means remove and inspect?) items that, in my mind, don’t need to be done based on where the damage is.
Examples: Rear seat (Unless this is to limit exposure to the quarter panel repair), fuel tank (again, limit exposure to quarter repair?), suspension cross member (unless aligns underneath with the the car was hit? or maybe this has to come off for the fuel tank to come out?)
Some of those make sense if they have to weld/cut for the quarter panel.
There’s a mark on the rear wheel. At 60+ it definitely feels like the rear toe is a little off now. Some of the other remove/inspect/reinstalls seem pretty odd but I’m not a collision guy.
What did your insurance company say about going after diminished value? Florida is a no fault state but when my accident happened, my carrier told me that I have to go after them myself in court for the diminished value and they don’t handle that.
I haven’t even started that process yet. Can’t do anything until I have a finalized total for the repair. I’ve been looking at using this place:
www.tigerdv.com
the values that the insuers are getting from the salvage companies also impact these decisions. they could close that file off right away, stroke you a cheque and get 50-60% back from the salver for a late model Audi likely and wipe their hands clean of it all.
many insurers have been trying to lower TL ratios but then you run into the folks that, once you stroke them a TL cheque, cannot replace the vehicle on the new or used market so then they need the car repaired instead which exposes all of the delays and rental charges etc.
i could go on for hours on this
This is all the more reason to go to Hagerty for my Miata and use agreed value.
fresh piece and has some of the language in it around the OEM certification programs.
BMW really has been the leader with their CCRC program. Note how they restrict access to critical repair components including many of the carbon stuff.
these programs will drive repair costs, parts costs and lead times higher and longer but will also ensure higher quality repairs.
My M3 has gone back to BMW CCRC every time it’s needed body repair.
Does your guy “easy” jobs too.
My daughters boyfriends mom backed into my car while it was i. Their driveway.
Call over and ask for Mike and name drop
Me. Done
Parts will be here next week and the car is getting dropped off 3/11 so that was pretty quick considering the estimate was done on 2/9 and some of the parts were from Germany. No idea how long it will take, I’m sure they’ll let me know when I drop it off and it will depend on what else they find once they start actually taking it apart. Enterprise said they’d pick me up at the shop.
Dropped off my terrain and got this turd while its in the shop.
Its a turbo 6 electric something or other.
And it has an irritating whistle noise at anything ove 30 mph.
Meanwhile Enterprise gave me a Malibu RS… all 1.5L of turbo fury.
Lol. The other malibu got a flat sooooo. Upgraded
Mine has a driver’s side rear wheel bearing that’s starting to go, maybe I should swing by and see if they’ll swap me out for an upgrade. It’s barely noticeable, something only a car guy would spot, but it definitely gets louder loading up the driver’s side and quiet when you load up the passenger’s side.
Tire light came on so Enterprise sent me to the airport yesterday for a car swap. Got… Another Malibu. Still an upgrade though because I went from the RS to a much nicer equipped LT. Also from a 31k mile car that felt like it was only rented to scumbags to a 10k mile car that still feels brand new.
Collision shop texted Friday and said they were waiting for some parts to come in next week so who knows how much longer mine will take.
Got a text Friday that they had just ordered parts.
I will have to follow up, because I will not pay for a rental after 30 days of the shop doing no work on a car that drives just fine.
They have me drop mine off until the initial estimate parts came in but of course they always find something else once they start tearing it apart. I wasn’t at fault though and State Farm immediately authorized 45 days on the rental and said if it goes past that they can extend it.
My buddy hit a deer in his model 3 on haloween. He got it back mid Jan … $23k in repairs later.
The insane cost of repairs (compared to gas cars) was one of the reasons Hertz sold off their electric fleet and the CEO that pushed them into electrifying their fleet had to resign.
