Remote car starter

however there are a lot of shops that hire 90% cob-jobs and only have 1 or 2 good installers. Audio Obsessions has just the opposite.

offroadzj whats your name i worked at cc in albany in 04-05 on and off when i wasnt at school in b-low or rochester.

adam

the shop that would be doing it is Precision Mobile Audio, my buddy has been there for years and does amazing work. I dont think the one in the link is a legit ultrastart, im searching around now to order one. Ill get ahold of one of you guys to help me out when it comes in for some extra cash obviously. Thanks!

why are some of these starters saying “auto transmissions only” ??

because they make them for manual transmissions too but they are a little different and require a little more work.

so the one in last link wont work? All the ones i see either dont say anything, or say auto tranny.

i would send them a message about it when you order. i believe the manuals will work on an auto but not the other way around. if i remember correctly.

k ill do that

my name is Kenny. I started in 03 i think in sales, then went to install around 04-05. Then became install manager around 07ish. Who was the install supervisor/manager when you were there?

Precision is another good one… never seen any problems from those guys.

Quick question, Have a '02 Xterra with factory remote locks, would I be better off getting just a starter or a starter/lock set-up?

starter/lock set-up for 1 or 2 reasons depending on if you have factory alarm (to know for sure, open window, lock doors with remote pressing it twice, wait 20sec., reach in and open the door. If the alarm goes off, you have an alarm. If not, then you dont)

If you do have an alarm then the starter could trigger your factory alarm when you remote start it.

If you dont have an alarm, then its just simply easier than having to use 2 remotes and they really arent much more expensive.

Look online for a Valet 561R. They are very inexpensive, are made by DEI, and have the option for adding door locks. Range is around 1000ft depending on obstructions.

MOST manual r/s have a wire or connection that you can cut/break to allow for use in an automatic. The biggest difference between auto/manual r/s is that with the manuals, they are set up so you have to do a certain sequence that will ensure that your vehicle is in neutral. Then when you shut the door it will activate it into “ready” mode. If the door is ever opened, the vehicle is no longer “ready” and will not start by remote.

kenny its adam cohen i worked under brian then when rob took over. i started installing there when dave b was in charge of the shop. i spent one or two summers there and the winter on two years. i remember when we let you start doing radios one christmas outside haha. good stuff. do you ever talk to any of the old guys from there? i run into rob chrysler every now and again. i left circuit in 07 then whent to a small shop in rochester for a bit then to the electronics warehouse in saratoga and ran the shop there for 2 years before i went back to school for my masters in the fall

back on topic you would want keyless on your new remote unless you want to have two separate remotes and also you would want to check to see if the factory keyless entry works when the car is running.

i talk to rob once in a blue moon… I remember those days… but hey, it got me started. Once you guys left, the installs went way down hill for a few years. After a while I finally got install manager and had to fix everything up while having the store manage breathing down my back to follow every little “step” and hit every budget… Once we got it all cleaned up, we were doing pretty damn good considering how slow it got.

So i ordered an ultrastart starter, ill let you know when it comes in. I didnt see anything about auto or manual, so im hopeing it’ll be ok. thanks for all the help

sounds good. im sure it will be fine. is the car an auto? i can make any starter work on any car as long as its fuel injected.

my car is 5spd, never owned an auto ever and dont plan on it

well if it doesnt work i have at least one compustar for manual trans.

yea, i’ve got a few DEI autostarts that are auto/manual… i waited for the prices at ccity to crash when they went under then went in and bought a bunch of the starters… lol

So will the Valet 561R work without a problem with a factory alarm?
