Remove old pin striping?

When I bought the car there was the remnants of a pinstripe that was once on the car. It originally was black on tan so the tan pinstripe probably looked pretty good at the time but now that its black on black it just looks out of place. How can I get the little pieces of pinstripe off and also get the residue off as well?

easy off oven cleaner… it will take it right off, and no im not kidding, when i worked int eh detail shop @ northtown thats what they used and it works great

that looks like a vinyl pinstripe. not a painted one.

the oven cleaner will work. as long as its good paint under the stripe.

I would use some PPG DitZ-0 or DX440 wax&grease remover for the residue and some heat from a hairdryer or heat gun to get the rest of the vinyl off.

there are a bunch of other glue removers out there. but the DX440 i have found to work the best. any autopaint shop should have it in different sized bottles.

Or that orange cleaner. “goo-gone”? I would test it on an inconspicuous spot first and don’t let it sit on the paint long.

x2

goo gone would work but the easy off stuff works faster.

 used that with a heat gun to get the huge lame stickers off of the car when first purchased.

works great

oven cleaner for sure
use it at work all the time

oven cleaner works great but smells really BAD!

was this the car Josh was just selling?

no but someone should buy that one!

Good, because I want to but I don’t have a job yet… hopefully by wednesday I will though.

toothpaste

??? I would think that would put some fine scratches in clear if you tried it. I mean they do recommend tooth paste to clean whitwalls due to the grit.

it’s about the same as rubbing compound but most people already have it at home. You do need to be careful.

the proper question to the poster is are these painted on or taped on. Taped ones come off with a little heat from a hairdryer and some help from goo gone. painted ones have to basically be sanded off, but since they’re above the clear coat it’s possible without damage.

the oven cleaner idea sounds like it will work also, just not sure how nice it is to the rest of the paint.

once removed I would use paint cleaner on the entire car to remove some of that oxidization then wax it.
