Restaurants that don't suck thread

Also on this list in the last few month I checked out:

Sidedoor in Ottawa. It was actually excellent… every dish. I will go again for sure…

Chantecler in Toronto, West end… did it with my brother, his gf and my wife… skip this place… we couldnt even figure out what to get off the menu and when we did nothing was great… i would not go back

In calgary in January hit up Charcut. It was very good, it is in the Hotel Le Germain if that gives you any indication. I thought it was weird though… they didnt have any green on the menu or in the restaurant at all… i even asked… every dish was excellent but some of the meats were overpriced for what they were… $35 for a thin piece of sausage is way overkill but still a good spot i would hit again after exhausting the others.

Also did Ox & Angela but didnt even realize it was on this list. I was hunting for Churros in Calgary and this was the only place i heard they could be had and they aren’t even on the menu. I did lunch and the salad was awesome… the churros were too heavily cinnamon’d but i would go back for dinner. 17th St is mega cool in Calgary and this place is near the best shopping in the city.

When i was in newfoundland a couple years back we did Raymonds for a business dinner and it was exceptionally good. Traditional high end dining with a lot of great stuff on the menu… i think every one of the 10-12 people that were with us would agree it was excellent. Would highly recommend if you’re out in NFLD and i also recommend making a trip out there, it’s beautiful and surprisingly metro downtown.

I’m going back in May and will be checking out Atlantica. We went there last time but they were booked up and you couldnt get a table for several days even though the place is 20 minutes outside of town… i’ll be making a reservation immediately after booking a flight

Next time I’m in Toronto I’ll have to check out something from that list^^

Here’s my breakfast this morning, Breakn Egg in Williamsville, absolutely delicious, best breakfast I have ever had, this is my second time, it is pricy, cost me 28$, but worth every penny, the quality is outstanding!

Last time I went I didn’t get pancakes but my father recommended them to me, said they were the best he’s ever had, well he was right. I had chocolate chip pancakes, and the chocolate was to die for. Served with fresh fruit, with strawberry coulis, and the best maple syrup I’ve ever had in my life. Turns out the maple syrup is right from here in East Aurora! I’m going to have to pick some up for myself soon.

Next was my Beef Tenderloin Crepe with a house salad. I don’t care for salad but it comes with it so I might as well eat it! I had it cooked rare. It’s served with goat cheese, a blueberry chipotle sauces with carmelized onions and mushrooms, heaven in every bite!

Last time I had two crepes I wasn’t full and ended up ordering eggs and bacon which were also fantastic, that breakfast was almost 40$ lol!!! But this time, the pancakes really filled me up, they were so fluffy, next time I go I may just get those with a small side. I’d recommend this place to anyone, the owner cooks the food right in the center of the restuarant in front of everyone and does an amazing job. Everything is fresh and made to order!

Well for my birthday the other day my Aunt took me out to Long Horn Steak House at her request today, the one that opened on Walden/Galleria.

Being a chain I didn’t know what to expect, but I didn’t plan on being super impressed, I figure it would be of the caliber as outback or Bravo/Cheesecake type steak.

Well I was super fucking wrong. I would easily rate the steak I had comparable to the Chop House, and MUCH MUCH better than Hyde Park/Black and Blue here in Buffalo.

For 21$ the value could not be beaten. It was a 9 oz filet dripping with juices and perfectly marinated with ample amounts of flavor. I easily put this in my top 5 steaks at restaurants.

The best steak I’ve ever had was at Ramsay Steak in Vegas, but that steak was also 85$.

I would definitely recommend anyone skeptical of this place to try it out for a first time, I will definitely be returning.

Tantalus in East Aurora temporarily closed to change everything. I thought the food and decor was fine, the only thing that needed changing is staying the same… The management.

I dont know if these have been covered but a few of my favorites lately.

In my opinion, and limited experience, Jacobs & Co is the best steakhouse in Toronto. It’s the best steak i can remember having to be honest.

They have a glass walled dry aging cellar adjacent to the dining room and their steak menu goes up to $250+ for a piece of Japanese A5. My brother and I split the signature ribeye at $56. considering how good it was i say it was a bargain.

tableside prepped ceaser was a 9/10. the place is a maze and feels very vegas. if you’re in Toronto and want a steak, go here.

I was in Edmonton last week and did Vivo. It’s the best restaurant i’ve been to in Edmonton and one of the best italian spots i’ve ever been to. It’s in a newer strip mall so i wasn’t expecting much on arrival.

The ceaser is grilled, different, and very good. the fettucini linguine is incredible, best ever. no faggy sauce, they just reduce an imported piece of cheese and it’s incredibly good al dente.

The steak was good, the seabass was awesome… place is very expensive though; seabass was $80 family style (no sides).

Earlier last week, while in Calgary, I did another of the 50 best; Model Milk. It also had a 2012 Calgary’s Best Restaurant award… i was not impressed.

The menu is eclectic but nothing was awesome. the salad was watery and meh…honestly, i can’t even remember what i had.

the atmosphere is excellent and it was fully booked on a monday so maybe i’ll have to give it another try. was not too expensive at all.

Also in Calgary last week, Catch is not on the 50 best list but i’ve been trying to go here for years. A few years ago it was tops in Calgary and we had some very valuable clients to take out who are trying to eat healthy so we did this place; top seafood spot in Calgary.

The menu was impressive, the place was fully booked on a Tuesday. As with all Calgary restaurants the service was average. the food was good but i wasn’t blown away. I’d go back again though and give it another shot.

Bing if you’re familiar with DT Toronto (which I’m sure you are), about a month ago a group of us from work went to the auto show and stopped in at the loose moose afterwards. Anyways, myself and one other guy split a crappy appetizer of chicken covered nachos, nobody else wanted any. Two hours later we’re the only ones throwing up on the ride home, had to stop in St. Cats and buy a water at star bux to use their bathroom.

If you guys are near yorkdale mall in toronto ontario on dufferin ave and want Breakfast / Lunch

http://scratchfreshfoods.com/ on marlee ave.

also she does custom requests

Olympic on the corner of Sheridan and Military gets two big thumbs down from me. Went there today and simple chicken fingers were horrible.

Lol Olympic, that’s not a restaurant silly

Royal > Olympic…although Mooney’s is right down the street and i’d take it over both

Aren’t both of those owned by the same people?

We stayed in Lewiston a couple of weeks ago. We obviously went to the Brickyard, great food, great bourbon, weird (but nice) waitress.

The next night we went to Carmello’s. Our service was excellent, our food was god damn phenomenal.

We got a bottle of La Colombina Rosso di Montalcino, and their cheese board to start. Kait got the pappardelle, I got the Mahi Mahi and we split a dessert. We stayed and chatted with another server at the bar and had another drink after dinner. All in all, it was an almost 10/10 experience we had there. I strongly recommend going there if you’re in the area.

I know the owner of Carmello’s, always a pleasure going there. Where did you stay if you don’t mind me asking? Barton Hill and Spa?

Yep! Huge t-up to that place too. I mentioned at Carmello’s at the end (because I never dig) that I worked at Aroma and gave them a thank you and congrats, and that our staff highly recommended it.

I know the owners of that place as well, haha. I used to be close friends with the son. Don’t you guys do business with some restaurants down in Lewiston? I went to Aroma last week with the lady, first time there in a few years but it was delicious as can be.

Carmelo’s is my favorite restaurant in WNY. Hands down.

when are we doing the nypseed dinner at this place!!!
