Restaurants that don't suck thread

Buffets don’t count.

I’ve heard great things about Sweet & Savory, I can’t imagine the quality is far off at Brioso.

The galleria is the last place I want to go for a nice dinner.

[QUOTE=manhagen;4591174]I went to the new Aroma on N. French last night to see my bosses new digs. The building is gorgeous, the food was spot on too.

We had Carpaccio and Peroni battered artichoke hearts to start, then Mero Sea Bass with roasted tomatoes, grilled asparagus and potato hash and Orchiette with chicken, peas, proscuitto, and gorgonzola cream. (I didn’t get a snap of her pasta, whoops!)

ummm… got take out from there last week. Was really looking forward to it. $54 (+3$ tip) bucks for 2 pasta entrees and the portions were so small i had to go back out and get food after i ate my dish. Didnt come with any salad or bread, just 2 boxes with a handful of pasta and sauce. Dont get me wrong it was good… but the portions suck.

For the same amonut of money i could of went to Lebro’s or Olive Garden and ate myself into a coma

I hope the dine in is better

Good but not great. Worth a try, but it seemed a little overpriced to me… though that might have been all the scotch.

HAHAHAHAHA OKAY, JohnnyLude. Go run a muck at Olive Garden next time.

We use fresh, housemade pasta and ingredients that are prepared fresh every day. You shouldn’t value your food by portion size.

you should also always try something in house before you get take out, nothing really travels well.

I never put 2 and 2 together than Dan at Aroma was Dan Hagen. Weird.

I was informed by @Gus last week. Never met him in person but I’ve known @Gus longer than I’ve known my brothers.

(Probably won’t make sense to anyone but Gus and Dan)

True.

Stop in sometime.

Will do!

Brick House Tavern…

I went to one in Ohio and it was decent so I tried the local one, not so good.
Strike 1; WATERED DOWN DRINKS.
Strike 2; room temperature meatballs.
Strike 3; Meh service.

Just here to say that I still love Aroma so damn much.

I literally lol’d when he used aroma and Olive Garden in the same sentence

cmon man.

<3

My exact reaction.

I ate at the new Aroma on North French last night too. It was excellent, but I would have preferred a slightly larger portion size as well. Maybe I’m making it up but I think I remember the portions are bigger at the one in the city?

Finally went to Left Bank on Tuesday. Really impressive. Don’t have time to type out all of my thoughts, but I was worried that it wouldn’t live up to expectations. Fortunately, I was wrong. Didn’t realize it was across from a friend’s shop as well.

Anyway, will go back for sure.

Oh, and manhagen, we did a driveby after, but was a little full to stop in. Probably see you tonight after the Joe Bonamassa show.

Forgot to post about this place (I think), but Shango on Main near south campus was amazing when I was there a few months back…

Yep. Been to Shango 3x over the past 2 years. Also fantastic.

Shango is amazing, as is The Left Bank

Just hit up Shango the other night. It was great, definitely different.

Also decided to go out to Tempo for an anniversary dinner. Service was great, got some champagne because our waiter noticed we were celebrating an anniversary. Definitely not cheap, absolutely the most I’ve ever spent on a dinner for two. Even with the two $18 glasses of champagne being on the house our bill came to about $190 with tip, we only had one other drink each…

Food was good too. I say good because the calamari had some funky sauce poured all over it. I didn’t care for it, but the lady like it so oh well.

For my meal I had Prosciutto Wrapped Filet Mignon with Gorgonzola on top and Gnocchi around the outside, along with some greens. I don’t like Gnocchi but that steat, holy shit, I’m usually more a NY Strip guy, but god damn the best thing I have ever eaten.

Could get too many pics, I felt like huge douche for taking these. lol

The lady got lamb and we split a small portion of the Gulf Shrimp Risotto which was amazing as well. I’d love to go back but $190 can go a long way many other places hahah.

Another great place to eat is the Family Tree on Bailey. The atmosphere is totally like you are in a nursing home but the greek food is great. Beef souvlaki dinner is the bomb.

Dude you could have gotten so many breadsticks at the Olive Garden.
