Retractable front liscence plate

Im mounting  my plate where the intercooler/rad slot it on my 91+ front end is. When summer hits could this really cause a increase in engine temp? If so id like to rig up a retractable one that i can adjust from in the car. Any ideas how to go about doing this? Only thing going threw my head is sum house door hindge brackets sumthin simmilar to the coilspring on a mousetrap and maybe one of the headlight motors i have sitting around as i no longer have pop up headlights. i dont want a ghetto string pulling my plate up or down. And if kits are available at a good price i may swing that way :? but im more of a do it yourself person. I have a welder and other tools so shouldnt be too hard.

If the intercooler is far enough back you could just put it on a hinge and when you get going the air will push it up. never tried this myself but it might work.

Thats what i was thinking in the 1st place if i get the right spring. But i dought it will fully go back and if a cops around me sees it flopping around i get pulled over hes going to play around with it and yet again ill get a failed to have 2 plates visable.

you could drill a bunch of holes through it. lol

I guess this post spawns off this thread:

Retractable license plates…wow, just wow.

Ya firstly it will alter the airflow in the area and two it clearly goes against the rule that the plate must be clearly readable and cannot be mounted as your speaking.

So what im pushin the bar. Atleast its better than running without one :dunno: maybe…but im not settling with having to mount a plate over one ticket. I geusse i like to play with gasoline and fire.

just a matter of time until you get burned. so, uh… good luck with that. :ugh2:

Some thing like so.

I saw that retractable plate dealy, but theres really no where to mount it on a 240, its too low to the ground

Sorry didnt make it clear enough the first time…I want this for the front plate…going right in the intercooler slot. im not trying to hide all my plates and run stopsigns red lights and rob gas from stations.

Why don’t you just do this? You won’t have to worry about legal issues this way…it’s clearly visable. Ziptied babayy

that’s what i suggested in the other thread. i fastened my plate that way, but i guess people are too cool for zipties these days.

Well, when we’re linking to places named “stylinconcepts” we’re clearly far too cool for zipties.

Like everyone else has already suggested:
Try NOT being a ricer and breaking the law for shits and giggles. Maybe cops won’t harass you then?

hahahaa, just like mine…ziptied to the corner

I’ve been pulled over for it, the officer thought that the zipties were a sure bet of “stolen plate or car”, opposite directions 80km/h each

enzo… whats with being a heatbag etc, etc,

this “nice” public forum, I would think is better than to help recommend people on how to violate legislations…

Derek (Dip) told you in your ticket thread that he did this. You should maybe PM him and ask him details about it.

Solarian: im not a ricer…far from it. I have no idea how u figure…please pull up sumthing that ive posted stating that i have rice in my taste for automotive tunning. ive wanted a caddi since i could speak. Dad always had me up on the hood of his 68 chevelle, used to put me to sleep driving me around in it. Every toy ive had has been taken apart annnnd put back together sumtimes with help. The day i turned 7 i enrolled in racing worked my way up to 10th overall in the Stars of Tommorow shifter kart program in 02. I dropped all that so i can have a regular life and support 2 jobs to pay for my 240 along with insurance gas mods etc

S13GG: Its not that im a heatbag. It has sumthing to do with my choice of interesting topics that some people think are sick and others who seem like little church boys. Ive noticed my posts get a lot of attention. I simpily post interesting topics only to have certian individuals chop up my sh!t. If u think im a retard putting lives at risk trying to kill people dont say anything. Ive stated that before in other posts that it should become a rule…nothing nice to say then stfu. Simple…and takes up less space for SON.

DR: this was a option i was thinking about but to me it looks odd…sumone coming at you would spot u. I dont like attention i dont want people sayin i saw u drivin the other day. no offence against zip ties i love them but in the case of holding up the liscence plate it goes look a bit ghetto. its personal taste…what works for u and others may not work for me.

Theo23: Yes thank you i was aware that derek had a simmilar setup way back when he was deciding wether to part or sell the car as one peice. I Had Pmed him and have not received a responce. Anyone seen his setup know how it works? care to explain thanks

I think thats all i need to say?? Could we try keeping my posts on topic? I dont care wether people think what im doing is kool or not. This topic is simpily about How To Make a Homemade Retractable Liscence Plate that mounts under the front bumper in the intercooler slot that will fold backand look as if its hidden. Thanks

Save yourself the hassle, I’ve gotten nearly all the tickets in the book

-fail to display 2 plates
-modify/alter plates - got this ticket at a R.I.D.E stop

HTA 13.2

Number plate to be kept clean

(2) Every number plate shall be kept free from dirt and obstruction and shall be affixed so that the entire number plate, including the numbers, is plainly visible at all times, and the view of the number plate shall not be obscured or obstructed by spare tires, bumper bars, any part of the vehicle, any attachments to the vehicle or the load carried. 1994, c. 27, s. 138 (7).

yeah, or just violate laws for the sake of a “look”, they can take plates off a car if they ‘want’ to, cause you failed the attitude test…

seriously, what’s wrong with the stock license plate mounting location? it’s not like it’s blocking your ac condensor/radiator or anything.

no one says im going to be driving around with my plate hidden/flipped back all the time. If i simply wanted that sleek look without a plate…i wouldnt put a plate…PERIOD. To technicly speaking i have a plate…the plate itself is unmodified not bent or cut not dirty clearrly visable mounted at the front of the vehicle about 5 or 6 inches down from the most upper forward part of my bumper. Thats if the cop really wants to be a a$$ he can give me a ticket for it not being on the most upper forward part of my bumper…If i cant figure sumthing out on my own for this retractable plate i may as well hack my bumper up cut a huge hole in it the size of the plate mount the plate into the bumper and add a tinted lense over it to give it that flush look. And if cops give me sh!t for that im buying a caddi or 96 impala SS or cloned verson lowered exhaust engine stereo system
