DUDE… quit picking on cobalts… they have awesome track records… you can PM bics or quik for details.
Like many other GM’s the best part about the Cobalt is the engine. It is ashame that they have idiots running the show they really could have some great products and a 4cyl midsize car could be one of them.
That is truth for the most part, and when they do bring a solid car to the market it gets killed 2 years later (G8). I will say I have always been impressed with their whole focus on perforamce/$$$
i think the handling is just as impressive as the motor. i dont feel like you can fault GM much on the car. it outperforms many cars, almost all of them cost more. what more do u want out of a car that is only $24k brand new. want a luxory interior to go along with that performance, look elsewhere. ill take plastic dashboards and no frills interior and hi-level of performance all day long in a sport compact. you gotta sacrifice somewhere. if i wanted the best of both worlds, id be prepared to spend alot more money. the car does exactly what it was designed to do. go fast for cheap.
the only bad thing is that they killed it. that part u are 100% correct. but i think they do alot in the right direction. they r better than some other manufacturers at giving you performacne / dollar

By no means am I putting down the Cobalt as a whole. I get what they were offering and love it. Bang for the buck the car is great. Having a well designed suspension is easy IMO, most cars in that class can compare handling wise. Designing a great engine with a easy path to mod is pure genius. It is just a shame that they blew money on worthless projects (Hummer, recreating SAAB, etc) instead of focusing on where they were showing success. The G8 is another great example. That showed tons of promise from exterior design all the way to the power plant. Produce an AWD version and you will start to compete with the Audi A4/A6, VW Passat, Infiniti G37X, BMW 335ix/535ix, Legacy GT, and everything else in that class.
Think about a GM if they focused there time where the consumer is willing to spend money.
Sport Compact - Cobalt
Midsize - G6
Full Size/Full Size Sport - G8
Sports Cars - Camaro/Corvette
SUV - Blazer/Yukon
F the Malibu, Suburban, impala, and don’t even try to product a van anymore. Go back to the core of what people want and start all over.

It is a shame that GM put as much effort into the new Cobalt SS as they did because I think its fate has been forever sealed as a throwaway car. Pair this with GM’s current reputation for build quality and there you have it.
GM just doesn’t have a clue on what the people really want and where to focus their sights on competition-wise, as Whitey stated.
P.S. My Cavalier will pull more trim than any of your rides, combined. Pussies.

ya i agree with most of what you are saying. i question alot of what they do, in that respect, also. i guess the only thing i was trying to say was that i love how when it comes to performance / dollar that GM pretty much produces cars that can performa at a price level above in almost every class (cobalt SS, all the corvettes, G8 etc). and in doing so, alot of ppl like to complain about the interiors other small aspects. but its obvious that there have to be corners cut in order to deliver a car with a high level of performance at a lower cost. i dont think i’d care about the interior of a c6 z06 when you can hang with almost any exotic. just like i dont care that my dash is plastic in my car because it can run with an Evo or Sti at a much lower cost. for that GM should be praised.
that is how a gearhead thinks but that’s not how most others think. The mustang gets killed in performance compared to the camaro but still sells a ton of them because it’s a better complete package. Once GM figures that out, it will be good for them.
I have one, nicest GM I’ve ever driven.
I think the Impala is selling pretty strong for GM right now.
