right into a curb!

So I let my brother drive the car the other afternoon, we were still in our neighbourhood when he slides into a curb!! We were probably going around 15km when this happened. So now I’m pissed! We switch up and head to CT for an alignment. (closest place and It was pulling pretty hard to the right.)

So I bring my car in and they get to work. 10 mins later the guys calls me in and tells me an alignment can’t be done because it wont fix it the problem completely. We walk under the car and see the right tie rod bent. So that need replacing, no biggie. The problem is when the guy tells me my frame will need work! He says I will need to take my car to a frame specialist as the frame is bent out of shape or something, he said it was out of line. He quoted me, saying “no more than a thousand”. OMG. Im dead broke cause of christmas season and other personal issues. I will fix the tie rod issue this weekend. wont drive during the week.

BUT anyone have any experience with frame out of line? or taking their car to a frame specialist? Can my car hold off if i just replace the right tie rod and do an alignment then? If so, how long? …stessed. wrong time for more expenses! any help is appreciated! thanks!

i strongly doubt the frame is bent for 15kms

did it only hit the rim?

yeah…strictly the rim. No body damage or anything else. we were in the neigbourhood, following the road curving left when it lost traction and hit the front right wheel. Im pretty sure 15km couldnt be more than 20. hope that helps. thx

My brother busted the rear wheel hub when he spun out on a green light. If its $1k in damages, just buy another S13 with a blown motor or something. THeres a frame shop on 9 or 11 Racine rd in etobicoke, ask them for a qoute.

guys probably bull shit or it happened with a previous owner.

15 km/h my ass

ok the guy is full of shit! when i worked at a garage for co-op last year a guy lost control hit the curb with both passenger side wheels going up and over the curb he busted the whole front knuckle in half and bent 1 rim and a control arm if i can remember correctly, and but i know for a fact he didn’t bend his frame and he was going like 50-60, so it is very very hard to believe that you bent your frame going 15 km when only hitting your rim as pantaloons said above, well i guess anything is possible but still, i would definitely be getting a second opinion…

it the front end

the ONLY thisngs that break are

-tie rods, usually inners
-lower control arms
-sway bar link
-tc rod

check those

ill put my money on tie rod and lower control car

unless you have a huge hole in the frame like most s13, the ct guy didnt know much.

Of the entire car, the frame is the strongest part. you will break all the steering components or the parts listed by pantaloons before you wreck the frame.

If it was the previous owner who bent the frame, i wouldn’t fix it since you were driving it before without any problems.

I had a giant hole in both my s13 frame rails and lifted the entire car up by them putting them in the car by 7". This still didnt cause the car to loose alignment.

GL

right now there’s an S13 in my driveway with the engine cross member broken/bent somehow, i haven’t looked in depth yet.

the frame rails are still straight but the motor and all suspension pieces are moved over about 1-2".

this is from the same thing, hitting a curb.

anything can break if you’re creative enough, it isn’t limited to certain things, though some are more likely.

This summer i smacked a curb going fast. I bent the tie rod, snapped the TC rod, bent the LCA and bent the sway bar endlink. 400 dollars and 4 days later car was up and running (aftermarket adjustable arms and alignment included.)

day 1: crashed it, moved it onto a driveway
day 2: tore it apart, picked up replacement arms
day 3: assemble
day 4: alignment

And this was doing about 80kmph

I don’t see how it is possible your frame could be bent from the incident you described… If your frame is bent, I would guess it to be from something previous to this!

Might I add, it is not very easy to bend your frame!!!

Alot of 240 frames while appearing solid or mint still have many weakspots, i dented my frame from bottoming out on a racing curb at Shannonville. Jacking up on the frame also results in bending or dents on some cars.

^ True… If you try and jack the car from a fram rail you can bend it…

But from what he described, I dont think fram damage is possible.

At shannonville you probably rode over the zebra lines and got a slight bend in a frame rail in the middel of the car?

I’ve rode them tons of times before LOL

its WAS 9 racine!! and the shop moved to 40 Airview now! he is my close friend! let me know. he did my car wicked so jus PM me if you wanna go

lol

240s can take more abuse than that!

yeah i doubt the frame is bent, a couple of years ago my friend thought he could drift, so yeah he hit the brakes hard on a turn and went into a curb, he prolly came into the turn at like 80 atleast, but yeah no frame bent, tie rod was gone, tension rod, a link, lca, and rim but yeah got it all fixed the next day not including the rim it cost me like 160. and like 40 bucks for alignment tow was free

Thanks guys. I will replace my tie rods first. Anyone have any they want to sell? aftermarket? Also, Its not my frame rail thats supposedly bent, they are fine, although I do have a hole in my drivers side. Sorry if that confused anyone. He said the frame of my car was out of line, as he was referring to the front end. It may have been from the previous owner as we were honestly not going fast at all!

I guess I’ll just get my rods replaced and car aligned. Then I’ll head to the frame shop on Airview eventually, i’ll let you know nitescream. Thanks again.

grab a new 1 from parts store they arnt expensive at all. cost price for me was less then 20 bucks.

Unlikely, but maybe your crossmember is bent.

maybe his frame is rotted and rusty and isnt strong no more and even slight crashes bend it. its still 15km/hr of a 2600lb pressure put to a stop. technically u can just fix the arms and rods and just make it drive straight.
