Braehall Etiquette Brenna (Spike) born September 26, 1997 passed away at 2:30 PM during surgery to correct Gastric Dilatation Volvurus (Canine Bloat), and liver complications, despite the effort of our wonderful veterinarians. Spike fought a hard battle but could not win!
GDV is most commonly found in deep-chested dogs of large breeds. The stomach becomes distended with air blocked by the twisting of the stomach. In Spike’s case it went one step further. His intestines wrapped around his liver, causing it to tripple in size.
As the few who had the chance to meet him already know, he was the biggest suck you would ever find. He was the pride and joy of all of us. He was a true golden teddy bear, all 107 lbs of him!
Our constant guardian when we went out on walks, Spike was no more than 15 feet away. He would constantly check back with us as if to say, “are you okay?..can I go back to running now?”
We cry when we think of him and realize we will not hear his strong voice again, he was such a huge part of our lives. Any of you who have lost such a pet can emphasize when I say how much I miss him.
Goodbye buddy! We will miss you with all our hearts!
I can only imagine how hard it is to lose a pet that has been a part of you and your families life for that long.
I have some pets of my own, and I know that I would be devastated if they were to pass away too.
i know what it feels like…
Our poodle passed away while we were in Portugal this year, we only had her for 4 years but she was my mom’s best friend, unfortunately she was too hyper and ran after a bird into the middle of the street, you can guess what happened next.
Again I’m sorry for you loss and you have my condolences.
If there is one thing beyond losing family to make a man cry, its losing a pet. I can’t imagine how I’d feel without any of my birds, never mind the one that has attached itself to me…
May he sleep peacefully, and always be by your side in spirit.
I was lucky enough to meet him and both Tanya and my self thought he was just great. I laughed watching him carry his little stuffed toy around. You know Brayden had a great time playing with, he tired poor Spike out.
I understand how it is to lose your best friend as I had to give my dog Shadow away. In some ways I think I would have delt with better if she had died rather then giving some other family the joy, love and devotion she gave me. I know she’s fine and happy where she but still, not a day goes by I don’t think of her.
This is nuts, my Nana just had to put her dog Joey down last Friday as he had bone cancer.
The first few days are always the hardest but it will get better. There’s no time table for that and you get over it when your ready and NOT before. It’s not fair this happened but remember all the great memories you have and it will make you smile and you laugh a little thinking of times he did silly things. Spike’s spirt will always be with you as he is always going to be in your hart.
Again I’m very sorry and pass on my families sympathies to your parents. If you feel like talking at all just give me a shout or hit me up on MSN and I’ll be happy to listen.
