I live right by that one and have had so many near misses from people not knowing WTF to do. Also at rush hour sometimes you end up either shoehorning your way in or waiting forever. However along with the one at Cleveland it did stop Harlem from backing up due to red lights, so I’m somewhere between love and hate.
Based on my experiences with 4-way stops, I’d say they’re safer because it’s less likely someone is going to be an asshat/not pay attention and t-bone you.
That particular double one causes problems cause if someone is signaling right they could be talking about 4 different right turns. If you assume they’re taking one and pull out before you actually see their car commit, bad things happen.
Doesn’t help that one block down Kensington at the 290-Main St-Kensington intersection is crash central.
One cool thing: The sign for it made the NYS driver’s manual.
I have 2 on the way to work…neither are very busy so it’s not like you really have to wait or worry about what other drivers are doing so usually they’re fun to fly around. On the other hand when they are busy they’re a cluster because most people don’t know what to do.
Ha, I was thinking the same thing when I hit that new one behind UB the other day with no one around. Just a little flick/flick and you’re coming out the other side in a nice little drift.
Been through that double one on Harlem once, that thing is crazy. I drive through hamburg every day and they work really well. How about the big one on delaware in front of city hall? It actually has lights in the middle of it and stop signs at the entrances, kinda defeats the purpose. There is never traffic there either, I don’t know how rush hour is though.
People just have to adjust to them. The last couple times I’ve been to the Gun Center the one’s on Harlem are running really smooth now. It takes way less time to drive down Harlem than it did with the lights.
